TWiP: Improvisationally Inclined

This Week in Pictures, Week 43, 2021

I really like it when I have something worthwhile to share in these weekly roundups. I’ll admit that some weeks feel a bit sparse. But this is one of those satisfying weeks, with multiple projects to share. First up, is an improvised triangular scarf I knit from some of the surprise Malabrigo from last week. Then, is the mandala I made up to go with my mom’s living room rug. I’ve shown you that before, but not fully blocked, and not on the new table where it belongs. I also have a new vest knit and a bowl of soup to share.

All of these things were either improvised completely, or were made differently from the original instructions. I must be on a creative streak 🙂

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the little (and big!) moments I have captured all week. Some of these images are posted on Instagram, but many aren’t posted anywhere but here. Some days there may be no photos, and other days there may be multiples. It’s more laid back than the Project 365s of previous years. You can learn more here 🙂

Photos taken with 📷 (Canon EOS 80D) or 📱 (Samsung Galaxy S9).

Here’s a very short video, featuring 1.5-second moments from the week:

Saturday

I made something from that Malabrigo ❤️🧡💜❤️ It’s a simple triangular garter stitch scarf 🧣

Halfway through, I realized I would have preferred a skinnier, more crescent shape, but I didn’t want to start over, and I like this just fine. It stretched way out when I blocked it. Bonus: It’s a chilly day today, compared to recently, so I get to wear it right away. Time to go for a walk and get my cheeks nice and pink 😊

My mom finished the coffee table she made from the top of my dad’s old dresser. (I’m not sure, actually, if it’s finished finished. She might be planning to stain it at some point.) My mandala works nicely there, just like we planned 💙🧡💚💙❤

Sunday

Time to begin a new project. This one is a vest. The pattern is a solid color, but I thought it would be nice with a stripe. A fuzzy stripe, no less.

Wednesday

Another lovely Fall day in New Jersey!

Thursday

Is there anything more cozy than a bowl of homemade soup on a Fall evening? 😋

This particular soup is a chicken vegetable number that I adapted for the slow cooker from a recipe I found on @christinacarleton’s blog in 2008 or so. Thanks for sharing, Chris. I’ve gotten several years of enjoyment out of this recipe 😁

I hope to find some time in the next week to share my changes to the recipe. It really is one of my favorites to make and eat.

Friday

It feels chilly in the house today. Time to get cozy with my sweater-clad hot water bottle 😁

Thanks for helping me celebrate the week! If you want to see this stuff as it happens, please feel free to follow me on Instagram ♥

  1. […] changed it up in some way. See the Vertical Hold Wrap (slightly asymmetrical triangle) and this unnamed scarf from last year (severely asymmetrical triangle) for proof. This one is more of a crescent. It doesn’t come […]
