TWiP: Foggy

We went to the beach on Tuesday! The last time we were down the shore was May of last year, when we took our annual long weekend in Ocean City. We usually find time for at least one day trip to Ocean Grove during the summer, but last year all of our travel energy went into an epic Ireland adventure. Then, this May, we skipped Ocean City because of the pandemic. So, no Jersey shore for 15 months or so. I missed it.

For this weeknight visit to Ocean Grove, I envisioned sitting on my favorite beach blanket in the early evening, with my camera and my telephoto lens, zooming in on all of the action around me, and coming home with beautiful images of the ocean and the bright blue sky.

I did sit on the blanket a bit. But the air was thick with fog and moisture, to the point where I was afraid to change my camera lens. So, all of my images had to be taken with the 35mm lens that was already on the camera. This means, I had to actually get up and move my feet to “zoom in” on anything. Plus, you couldn’t see very far due to the fog anyway. So, my photos from this trip ended up being completely different than I expected them to be. We were sopping wet, just from being in this dense fog. And the sky? I assume it was there. I never saw it. I’m still enjoying this batch of images, because we did have a nice time, and the fog challenged me to be creative with my photography, but maybe we can go back sometime soon so I can get a few of those nice sky shots, too 😁

P.S. If you look at my previous TWiPs from this week in history (at the end of this post) you will see that I often do some kind of traveling at this time of year. That may explain why I feel so wanderlusty right now. I’m having trouble sitting still.

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the microblogging I’ve done on Flickr and Instagram all week. This includes photos I shot for Project 365 and any other extra images I may have posted.

Photos taken with 📷 (Canon EOS 80D) or 📱 (Samsung Galaxy S9).

Slow progress on the Blurred Lines sweater last week, but this afternoon I’m plugging myself into Britbox and seeing how far into the yoke I can get 😁

I have been using my grandmother’s camera strap for several years, but it started to break, so I whipped up a new one with fabrics I’d originally cut up for mask-making. It’s got its faults, but it will do until I can figure out if there’s a way to fix Granny’s strap.

We finally made it to the beach. It’s been a few years. It was a nice night, although it was very, very foggy. I promise there is an ocean out there somewhere!

I brought the instant camera to the beach yesterday. I still don’t get the most amazing results, but these snapshots are some of my better ones. I think being outdoors is the key.
