TWiP: New Year, New Photo Project

This Week in Pictures, Week 1, 2019

This week’s TWiP contains the last few entries for Picture the Holidays and the first few entries for my eleventh Project 365. I can’t imagine not having a daily photography practice, so there was never any question that I would start another 365. That doesn’t mean there weren’t any questions at all, though. As usually happens, when January rolls around, I look back at the previous year’s photo project and figure out what, if anything, needs to change.

It’s been a weird week. I forgot to do Thursday’s photo, so I doubled-up on Friday. I have decided to be laid-back about this photo-a-day thing for this month. I still want to do every prompt, but I might not shoot every day. And I’m cool with that.

This Week in Pictures, Week 48, 2018

I have spent all year capturing my mornings, but I find it hard to be innovative when I spend most of my morning hours in the office, where I have very little control over lighting and atmosphere, and more importantly, where I have a job to do that does not involve photographing my breakfast. So, I’ve been feeling a bit uninspired with My Year of Mornings, which is why I jumped at the change to participate in Picture the Holidays again.

Moody Swamp

Great Swamp Wildlife Refuge Droplets and leaves in a web

This weekend,the 15 year old and I went to the Great Swamp in the rain. His idea. “Bring the camera,” he said. It was wet, unsurprisingly, and we had the entire place to ourselves. I don’t think that has ever happened to us before. It was nice. And a tiny bit creepy.

For me, half the fun of photography is in transforming a dull, straight-out-of-the-camera (SOOC) photo into something with some oomph! This is especially true since I started shooting in RAW four years ago. Photoshop Actions and Lightroom Presets are essential to my editing flow, and they save me so much time. I decided it was about time I share!
