TWiP: Three Weeks in Pictures

This Week in Pictures, Weeks 13, 14, and 15, 2022

I could sit here and go on and on (again) about how much it pains me to have gotten several weeks behind in my regular blog posts, or I could share with you the unpleasant surprise I felt during one of those weeks when I sat down to make a post, only to realize that I’d taken my camera out a measly four times, and gotten no images worth writing home about.

But I’ll spare you trivial little drama, and instead present this clever solution: Three Weeks in Pictures! I can even use the same TWiP acronym.

Let’s just say, since the end of March, I have spent much of my time doing things that do not lend themselves to photography. Like working on a new website for my mom (fun, but not exactly the stuff of great images), working the day job (also [sometimes] fun, but again would just be pictures of me at the keyboard). I’ve been playing solitaire, eating popcorn, and procrastinating finishing my most recent sweater knitting project. It’s just been a long string of days where photography hasn’t crossed my mind.

And when I say “long string of days” I mean it. I’ve had time for two haircuts since the last time I was here, for crying out loud!

Anyway. I really want to be better at this weekly thing. Really. I will try, but it’s nice to know that I have Three Weeks in Pictures, or even Two Weeks in Pictures to fall back on, if I have to. Let’s just hope I never blow it so badly that I’m forced to go with Twelve or Twenty Weeks in Pictures 😆

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the little (and big!) moments I have captured all week. Some of these images are posted on Instagram, but many aren’t posted anywhere but here. Some days there may be no photos, and other days there may be multiples.

Photos taken with 📷 (Canon EOS 80D) or 📱 (Samsung Galaxy S9).

Week 13

I will never get tired of making mugs to match my blankets.
Oh, hi 😊

I’m just sitting here thinking about how nice it is that my work day will be over in less than an hour.

Also good? Haircuts from @maria_does_hair23 (6 inches of dead weight gone!), red nail polish, hand knit sweaters and polymer clay rings 🤩

So, what’s up with you?

There are a few things I miss about working in an office. One of them is the way I used to take myself out for lunch several times a week. These days, my lunch is usually a cut up apple dipped in peanut butter – which I love – but sometimes you just want a slice of good New Jersey pizza. So, I went and got one. And it was good.

Week 14

Aidan and I will happily drive 45 minutes to go to a cool little coffee shop on a Saturday morning. Today’s drinks were a maple latte for me, and a rose latte for Aidan. Bonus points for wearing mom-made knits 🙂
First dandelions of the season.
27 years ago, we chose April 1st to get married because there were no other family special occasions during the month of April. 8 years and 3 days later, we went and had an April baby. It’s ok, though. He’s a real keeper, and we don’t mind sharing our month with him 💕

Happy 19th birthday, Eamonn! 🥳

Week 15

My mom has been writing reflections for a while, and I’ve been encouraging her to share them. She took me up on it recently, and we’ve been working on making a blog for her. She does all the writing, and we collaborate on the design ideas. If you visit there (Reflections from my Rocking Chair, check it out!), you might think it looks and feels similar to this site. That’s because I made her a blog theme that is based on the one that I made for Polka Dot Cottage. Why reinvent the wheel, when you can just heavily tweak it? 🙂

I realized yesterday that I have barely taken any photos in the last few weeks 🤨 So tonight I grabbed my DSLR, and took a walk through the neighborhood. My plan was to zoom way in on those blossoming trees and capture the little floral details. Only I was halfway down the block before I realized my camera’s battery was actually dead 😵 Soooo, change of plans. Phone pictures, no little floral details, but still pretty in their own way 🤍
I don’t usually have breakfast in my bedroom, but Neil got up nice and early, so I moved from my usual spot on the living room couch and sat on the bed to start my work day and sip my coffee. Something about this scene makes me feel like it’s going to be a happy, colorful day. (It also makes me think that I need to do a little minor decluttering, but let’s not focus on that)
Two reasons to be cheerful today, the first of which is short hair! 💇🏻‍♀️

The more than two years I spent growing my hair long were fun. At it’s longest, it reached down to the middle of my back. Last summer I used colored conditioners to transform the gray areas into fun rainbow hues. I made polymer clay barrettes to match every outfit, and clipped my hair up into a fun, curly pile on top of my head.

But eventually, it got too long, and I got kind of bored, and that curly pile on top of my head had become a lifeless blob. So I cut off half of it so it was just below my shoulders. I liked that for about two days before I realized I had pretty much lost patience with the whole long hair thing entirely.

So today, I am back to my usual short do. When I picture myself, this is the length my hair always is. Plus, this length requires barely any attention, and I can pretty much step out of the shower, give it a vigorous toweling, run my fingers through it, and be done. My only regret is that I no longer have a use for all of those lovely barrettes I made myself. I’ll stash them away until the next time I get a whim for growing my hair out, I guess. And if I never get that whim again, maybe some of my nieces would like some lightly used handcrafted barrettes 😁

My other reason to be cheerful today is that I have gone down a pant size recently. I’m taking the slow-and-steady route to weight loss (after all, that’s how I gained it), so it’s nice to notice progress with a little victory like this! 👖

Happy Thursday! What are your little victories and reasons to be cheerful?

Thanks for helping me celebrate the week! If you want to see some of this stuff as it happens, please feel free to follow me on Instagram ♥

  1. Big fan of the short hair! And the little mint green VW bus, too.

    1. Thanks! Neil got me the bus. I’ve been meaning to make a granny square blanket out of polymer clay for the back seat.
