Soon to be finished

Here are a few things that I have been working on lately. Both of them have the potential to be finished in the next day or two, but that’s only if I don’t get distracted by something else during my regular evening me-time.

Light and Lacy Top

This is Doris Chan’s Light and Lacy Top, a free crochet pattern that I envision wearing over a black tank to the beach in a few weeks. I see it as being loose and swingy, and just a perfectly carefree garment to wear on a perfectly carefree weekend away.

The reality is that it hugs me in some places and protrudes unflatteringly in others. And while it’s not exactly “stiff as a board,” it is most definitely lacking in the “loose and swingy” department.

Both of these problems I hope to rectify with some serious blocking. You’ll also notice I need to weave in the ends. They’re just hanging all over the place right now.

Once I address these issues, I’ll try it on. After that, I will either come back here and triumphantly show-and-tell the happy results, or I will ball it up and stuff it in the giveaway bag. I’m rooting for the first scenario, but not ruling out the second.

Porthole Cardigan

This is a Porthole Cardigan in progress, a baby sweater of my own design. I’ve knit three of these before, but I never got around to publishing the pattern as intended. And then I lost my notes and forgot a lot of what I had learned during the knitting process.

Luckily, a new opportunity for baby gifting has presented itself, and I am resurrecting this pattern. This time, I really will publish it. I’ve written my intention here, so it has to be true, right?

This little sample is a size 3-6 months. It still needs a few inches of knitting in the body, and some sleeves. I’m hoping it will come out being unisex enough, since I’m not sure whether it’s for a boy or a girl. I’m tempted to make some little sheep buttons for it, too. Wouldn’t that just be adorable?

  1. Oh, wow! I think it looks great! I hope it turns out just like you envision…I bet it will! 🙂
I love the baby sweater! I have been making a lot of baby sweaters lately…really fun! Although, after this last one, I’m thinking definitely something else!

    1. I would definitely buy that baby pattern!

    2. Nothing ever turns out like I envision, lol! That’s not always a bad thing, though 😉

I love knitting baby sweaters, too. They are so much faster than adult sizes!

  2. Very true! 🙂
