I picked up my fancy camera more than usual, which I think is probably a good thing. Having a hefty device in my hands, looking through a viewfinder, being intentional about focus… it’s a different experience than phone photography usually is. My phone takes some lovely images, don’t get me wrong. When you compare the photos I was taking with a real camera when I started this blog, to the photos I am taking with a cell phone now, the phone imagery is clearly of a much higher quality (and that’s not just because I have improved as a photographer, though it is partially that).
I’ll always prefer a DLSR and a couple of nice lenses to cover all of my favorite focal lengths, when I am looking to capture events or special adventures.
But even for the slice-of-life, everyday photos I tend to take, there’s something about the DSLR that beckons me to pick it up again and again, even when a phone would suffice. I only have to overcome a bit of inertia. Because snapping a photo with a phone and sharing that photo to Lightroom Mobile is quick and easy, while using the camera requires me to turn on the computer, insert my memory card, and transfer everything into Lightroom manually.
This week, I chose not to take the easy way out as often as I usually do 😊
P.S. I’ve been making some cosmetic changes to the blog today. You may not notice anything, but if you do, and you have any trouble with anything, please let me know! My goal is always to improve readability and functionality, not to impair them.
So, what is This Week in Pictures?
It’s a roundup of the little (and big!) moments I have captured all week. Some of these images are posted on Instagram, but many aren’t posted anywhere but here. Some days there may be no photos, and other days there may be multiples.
Photos taken with 📷 (Canon EOS 80D) or 📱 (Samsung Galaxy S9).
