Occupants of the house have been quarantined, pending EPA investigation.
Ok, not really. But isn’t he funky-looking? Like something that might have emerged from a nuclear waste pond? I checked bugguide.net, and I think he may be an Orgyia Caterpillar, but don’t quote me on that.
Whatever he is, he seems to like it here. He’s been hanging with us for a few hours now. Maybe he’s hoping I’ll invite him in to join us for supper. (It’s not likely…)
If it is possible to be IN love with a caterpillar, I might be with yours…He is too divine for words. And so well behaved.
Would you believe he’s still on my front door? I hope the poor thing isn’t dying, but I don’t know if there’s any real way to tell with caterpillars.
Fancy! He’s got tassels! Great shot. That has to be the dressiest pillar I’ve seen!
Isn’t he crazy-looking?! He’s been fun to watch.
Haha, he’s funny looking! I think I’ve seen critters like that in my neck of the woods (in Nova Scotia, Canada), but not recently. Had a bunch of them almost ruin my dogwoods a few years back when we had sweltering heat.
Oh, that’s not good – dogwoods are beautiful! Glad they didn’t get completely ruined.
We call them wooley worms down here (South Texas). Back home, closer to the coast, they used to take over all of the trees!! Seriously they were EVERYWHERE! They loved all the oak trees. Their “fur” makes alot of people I know itch terribly. They are definately funky looking.
I think I’ve heard of the wooly worms, too, but that refers to the brown and black really fat & fuzzy kinds around here.
It is not every day that a post of yours reminds me of one from “I blame the patriarchy,” but today is that day.

Oh! Ew! Ew! Ew! I think I’d have *freaked* if I found that thing in my bathroom! Blech.
My daughter would absolutely LOVE to find one of these near our home! She is so into bugs- I just don’t get it! Have fun with your fuzzy little guy!
That’s funny, because my boys barely showed any interest in it. I had to work up an awful lot of enthusiasm myself before they came to see it! Actually, the poor guy met a sad fate and ended up as spider food in the end, and that part triggered sympathy and curiosity in my 7-year-old – so I guess that’s something…
