Polka Dot Cottage: Day Two

Day Two

Posted September 7th, 2012 by

As in, Day Two of me being home alone for the first time in – literally – months.

My 7th-grader and 4th-grader started school yesterday, and I’ve been spending my time doing laundry, food shopping, catching up on business email, knitting a tiny sweater, and getting my calendar populated with everybody’s work and school schedules.

I’m excited about getting into a daily groove that gives me a nice balance of family, work, and me time. I’m still working on figuring out what, exactly, that looks like for me, but I’m excited about it nonetheless!

Speaking of work, I’ve re-opened custom crochet-hook ordering! If you’re new around here, let me give you the scoop: I put polymer clay handles on crochet hooks. They are pretty, they are comfortable, and they are custom-made to your specifications. There’s a lot more information about them here, as well as some customer reviews here, if you need convincing.

Hurry, though. I will close ordering sometime in October, so that I have enough time to make the hooks and ship them before Christmas.

Don’t crochet? I also have an idea for you loom-knitters out there. I’ll reveal that once I’ve had a chance to work up a few samples.

Maybe someday I will also come up with something useful for needle-knitters, but you can’t exactly put a handle on a needle, now can you? Any ideas there?

Here’s another question: it’s been a while since I’ve made and sold any new buttons. Is there interest in that? I can custom-make them in the same patterns and colors as the hooks.

Great – will be ordering another crochet hook, and loved the freebie buttons you sent with my last order, so keen to order some of those too. Well done Lisa.

    Hey Lisa,

I’d love to feature your hooks on Just Crafty Enough if that is ok with you. I’d like your permission to use a couple of your photos in the post.

For needle knitters, I might think along the lines of stitch markers, point protectors (maybe using bake & bend or eraser clay), or covering the ends of bamboo needles.

I’ll be keeping an eye on the comments to see what anyone else comes up with. =)

i’m not a knitter nor crocheter (sp?) but i do love the pens you make with the clay handles — i’m up for those … also, love your buttons — do you amke them to specific sizes … i would need 5 of each 1 1/3 in button (nikki tote handle buttons) … not right now, but would love to order some …. one more also, didn’t you make custom family orniments for christmas a few years ago … that would be wonderful to order one for hubbs and i ….

well, more than you asked for, but … ya never know, if ya don’t ask ….

darlene, who is still sorry she missed the sheet swap (foot is better, and hives — except for today and yesterday — are pretty much gone! thank goodness… ) … lets do it again!

    • Lisa says:

Oh, yes, pens can be done again :-)

I generally make the buttons 1.25 inches, but technically I can make them in any size that I have a cutter for (and I have a pretty big selection of sizes).

I did used to make family portrait ornaments, but they are really a huge undertaking and not much fun for me. I’m trying to stick to work I enjoy for the time being and see where that gets me!

You are more than welcome to organize your own sheet swap, LOL!

      • darlene says:

yes, a pen would be nice … ;-)

i saw the ornaments the year my hubbs and i were married (2005) and was going to order them that christmas, but … didn’t get ’round tuit …. ;-(( … maybe you’ll get back in the mood ….

as for the sheet swap … LOL to you on that one … i saw and read how *intricate* this is, but b/c you already have the skill set, i’ll leave it to you … again … LOL …

will watch for updates on the pens and the ornaments, and, whenever i get it together, i’ll know more on the buttons … i love yours but would only do them for my bag — i’m selfish that way ….

        take care …. darlene

I’d love to have some bright primary colored buttons. For some reason, I’m drawn right now to those colors, bright, fully saturated ones. I’ve recently gotten some beads and would love to make bracelets with buttons that go with them. Your buttons are the best! I love them all.
