Weekend Sweater in Bold Colors

Weekend Sweater in Bold Colors

My Weekend Sweater knitting pattern is a super easy knit, top down, with all knit stitches (no purls). The sample I made back in 2017 was a solid neutral color, with a stripe across the middle in a subdued variegated yarn. I envisioned this pattern being made with or without the stripe. Some would be nice solid colors. Some would be nice solid colors with a subtle stripe across the middle.

What I didn’t envision was this one that just came off of my needles last week. This sweater is anything but subtle.

When I came up with this bold color scheme, I started with a great skein from Three Irish Sisters that I had picked up at the Rhinebeck Yarn Bazaar, the day before Sheep and Wool. (It’s Springvale Worsted in the “Man in the Moon” colorway.)

I could have kept it classy and just used a creamy off white for the solid portions of the sweater, but I was in the mood to knit something colorful, and maybe just a little bit outrageous. So, I picked out a nice yellowy green for the yoke, and some bold pink for the sleeves and body. I used my favorite workhorse, Cascade 220, in “Palm” (2409) and “Cerise”(7802).

This was a fun knit. It served its purpose, and brightened up my January a little bit. Plus, it showed how versatile the Weekend Sweater pattern is. I have another color scheme in mind to try, this time dark and slimming, I think. But I’m going to give myself a little break from sweaters first 🙂
