Hello! If you’re not viewing this post directly on my website, I hope that you will click through and take a look at the changes I’ve made in the past week. I’m really, really happy with the way everything has turned out! Here’s a rundown of what’s new:
- I transferred the entire site from it’s comfortable old location to a new hosting company, where I’d have more flexibility.
- I got an SSL Certificate, which basically means that every aspect of your browsing experience is secure. This is good news for everyone, but in particular it should appeal to those who might want to treat themselves to a little something in the shop.
- As you may know, I work for a company that makes web server software and caching solutions. You may not know what any of that means, but I can tell you that this new hosting allows me to use the products I’ve been writing about for my Day Job for the last year-and-a-half. That’s pretty cool to me, but it should also be cool to you because it means Polka Dot Cottage is running a lot more quickly and efficiently than it used to. Pages should load pretty fast for you now.
- I wasn’t planning to make any aesthetic changes, but it happened anyway… While I was tweaking my settings for efficiency purposes, I realized a few of the things I was doing visually were slowing down the site. So, I changed those things, and that set off a whole string of updates, resulting in the new look you see before you.
So, that’s it. It took the better part of a week to get it all done, but I think it was worth it. I think the site looks nicer, and it definitely works better under the hood. Is there still room for improvement? Sure. Will I continue to make little tweaks here and there? Naturally 🙂
Please let me know if you run into anything quirky, particularly in the shop. I had a customer report that she was unable to download a pattern she ordered. I want to nip problems like that in the bud, so definitely get in touch if you have a similar experience with anything!
So, what is This Week in Pictures?
It’s a roundup of the microblogging I’ve done on Instagram all week. This includes photos I shot for Project 365 (the theme for 2018 is mornings: #myyearofmornings2018) and any other extra images I may have posted.
Ready? Cast your mind back to this time last week…
365 📱: #myyearofmornings Jun 02 – Got a text from my 15yo: “Mom. Let’s go shopping.” So we did. Cheese samples and browsing in a wine shop, coffee and croissants, a good talk, a pretty drive, picking out a birthday gift for his little cousin, and grabbing lunch for the family on the way home 💕 [Taken at Gary’s Wine & Marketplace.]
365 📱: #myyearofmornings Jun 03 – Birthday party for our little niece today 💕 [Taken at my Sister-in-Law’s house.]
365 📱: #myyearofmornings Jun 04 – So, it’s Monday. I spent a lot of time doing nerdy things for my own website this weekend, but now I have to switch gears and be nerdy about someone else’s stuff 🤓 [Taken at work.]
365 📱: #myyearofmornings Jun 05 – I guess #peonyseason is over 😞
365 📷: #myyearofmornings Jun 06 – I heard this one making all kinds of racket through the bedroom window, so I grabbed my telephoto lens and went looking for the source. Found it in my neighbor’s front yard 🦃
Instagram 📱: – I thought it was about time I take a break from working on my website, and instead make some progress on my #missdaisysweater. It’s a nice night, so why not #sipsipknit outside?
Instagram 📱: – #30secondslater … I’ll tell you why not: mosquitoes! I’ll just hang out here on the bed, next to an open window instead, thank you very much. I feel itchy all over now 🤣
365 📱: #myyearofmornings Jun 07 – The prospect of my usual breakfast bar bored me today, so I stopped off and treated myself to a couple of tiny scones. #breakfastofchampions [Taken at work.]
365 📷: #myyearofmornings Jun 08 – I’m so excited about the changes I’ve been making to my website this week! It’s all pretty much done, though I did have one report of quirky behavior that I had to check out this morning… If you visit, be sure to let me know if you find anything out of place!
Instagram 📱: – Inspiring eye candy to flip through lazily, and a cup of decaf to sip. This is shaping up to be my kind of Friday night 😁 [Taken at Barnes & Noble.]
