Road Trippin’ with Polka Dot Cottage

Things to do in the Car: Enjoy the Ride!
If your family is planning a summer road trip, you might like some of these ideas for easier packing, and things to do in the car.

Road Trip Printables

The Beach Packing Checklist is highly customizable. We used this a lot when the kids were little. It comes in two formats: a PDF for easy printing, and a Photoshop PSD. If you have Photoshop skills, you can customize the list to show only the items you want the kids to pack. You can tailor it to little boys or little girls, and you can change any of the descriptions you like. If you don’t want to fiddle with Photoshop, you can just print out the pre-made PDF.

The boys and I have played the License Plate Game together every summer for the last ten years, at least. And we still play it, even though they are teenagers. We keep the checklist on a clipboard in the car, and work on it in dribs and drabs, until it’s time to print out a new one for the next year’s Summer trip.

All of my printables are free. Or, if you like, you can buy me a coffee ☕. It’s completely up to you!

You can’t go for a long drive without good music! I’ve made a lot of Summer music mixes in my day… Here’s a sampling:

These are all free for you to listen to! You can navigate to this blog post from your phone and play the playlists from here, or you can follow this link to play through Spotify.

Passenger Seat Craftiness

I almost ended this post right here, because I am used to being the one behind the wheel when we take a road trip, but I realize many of you are lucky enough to be passengers. So, if you are a passenger, and you are not prone to motion sickness, you might want to try one of these easy, portable projects while you’re stuck in the car.

Enjoy your Summer road tripping! If you use any of these resources, I’d love to hear what you thought about them. Be sure to come back here after your trip and leave a comment 😁
