TWiP: Happy Things

This Week in Pictures, Week 2, 2020

As I write, there are three happy things on my mind:

  1. Incredibly, this post is going to be on time. The first Saturday TWiP in weeks!
  2. Neil had a successful surgery to replace his defibrillator this week, and he’s home now, recovering.
  3. It’s an unbelievable 66F degrees outside, which is nearly 30 degrees higher than it usually is at this time of year. As soon as I’m done here, I’m going outside!

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the microblogging I’ve done on Flickr and Instagram all week. This includes photos I shot for Project 365 and any other extra images I may have posted.

Photos taken with 📷 (Canon EOS 80D) or 📱 (Samsung Galaxy S7).

Ready? Cast your mind back to this time last week…

I took a quick trip to the Raptor Trust with my sister and my mother. Strangely, my favorite photo of the day was not of any of the impressive big birds they are rehabilitating, but of this little sparrow that was scrounging for spilled birdseed with a few of his friends.

I bought this yarn in the fall, knowing that I was going to want some happy colors on my needles in the winter. So here we are in January, and my Weekend Sweater with the happy colors is well underway. I won’t lie. It’s going to be a wee bit clowny. But I’m cool with that.

Just a light dusting today.

I just love having a car with modern audio options. It’s such a novelty to me. Today, I think I’ll go with music from my USB stick.

Thursday

At 9:30am this cardiac surgery waiting room was nearly full. By 6pm, it looked like this. I spent much of my day in here, while doctors down the hall removed and replaced my husband’s defibrillator. All went well.

Friday

I usually have breakfast at work, but today I have the day off. I’ve got time for a quick pourover at home before I go pick up Neil from the hospital.

This sweater. It’s a #pdcweekendsweater and it’s not my usual subdued color palette. There’s a lot going on here, color-wise. But there’s been a lot going on in Real Life, too. This is my happy knit, intended to get me through some challenging times. I knew last fall, when my father was dying, that I would want to have something colorful and cheery on my needles in the winter. And I have been appreciating it. Between the loss of my dad, and my husband’s health issues, these last two months have been hard. But I’m pleased to say that Neil’s surgery to replace his defibrillator yesterday went off without a hitch, and he’s already home and recovering. I finally exhaled a bit yesterday afternoon, and today I am continuing to knit this crazy-ass sweater, because it’s cheery and fun, and I still need that. Even if I rarely wear it, the knitting is serving an important purpose for me right now. My only question is, what color should I make the sleeves? I was planning all along to go with this bright pink, but a few days ago, I suddenly thought: turquoise! I don’t know… that might be too much. And I already bought the pink yarn. Decisions, decisions…
