Stud Earrings, Custom Work, and Other News

It’s that time of year where I get in the mood to get my hands dirty in the polymer clay. To be honest, I’ve been chomping at the bit to try a new design for literally months! And I would have given in back in July if my work area had not been in a state of disarray.

Of course, a messy workspace is certainly within my power to correct, but in this particular case, it’s a big job. And it hinges on the cooperation of other people. And frankly, it overwhelms me and I’ve been putting the whole thing off for as long as possible.

In fact, I’m still putting it off. Rather than deal with the things that are taking up space on my big table, I finally just set up a small table and plopped my stuff down there.

This setup is less than ideal. The table wobbles, and more than once this past weekend I gave myself a bit of motion sickness while working on a piece. I know, silly! But I just couldn’t wait any longer. Not only did this idea desperately want to get out, but I have a shelf to keep stocked in a local boutique, and I have a craft show coming up in a few weeks. Things need to get made!

So I’m making do. For now. There is still a chance I will get the rest of the room under control, but that day is not today. Today, I want to show you what I’m up to!

Stud Earrings

Stud Earrings at Polka Dot Cottage

Ok, so this is what has been occupying my brain for so many weeks: Stud earrings!

They’re little bits of colorful polymer clay happiness in a brass frame.

What excites me about these, other than how much fun I think they are to wear, is that they are less labor-intensive for me to make than most of my other items. This allows me to sell them at a lower price point than the other jewelry in the shop!

I’ve been wanting to offer a “budget” item for some time, and I’m glad to have finally figured out a way to do so.

Custom Orders

Polka Dot Cottage pattern choices for custom work

I’ve opened up custom ordering in the shop for a limited time. What does this mean? It means that nearly everything I make can be ordered with your own choice of colors and patterns!

So, if you like the dangly earrings I have in stock, but you’d be happier if they were blue, I can take care of that for you.

If you want your crochet hook handle to have a spot for your thumb to rest, I can take care of that, too.

And if you just love the Round Stud Earrings in Seaside Retro, but hexagons are more your thing than circles are, I can also take care of that.

Custom ordering will be available until Midnight (Eastern Time) on November 30th. After that, the shop will remain open, but will be limited to whatever stock I have on-hand.

Visit the shop and see what I can make for you!

Ornament News

I hate to do this, because they were so popular last year, but at this point I do not have any plans to make 2016 Family Portrait Ornaments.

Ornaments are a hefty undertaking, and I don’t see myself having the time or space this season. However, if my situation changes, I will consider doing a limited number. There’s a mailing list you can join on the Ornaments page, if you want to be notified of future ornament availability.

News for Local Peeps

If you are in New Jersey, and would like to see some of my work in person, you are invited to visit TMC’s Boutique in New Providence. I am one of several local artists whose work appears in the shop.

Additionally, I’ll have a table at the Long Hill Library’s Harvest Craft Fair on November 5th and 6th. I’d love to see you there!

LET’S KEEP IN TOUCH!

Sign up for occasional Polka Dot Cottage news and get a coupon for 10% off your next order!

Don't worry, we won't bother you more than once or twice a month!
