I have to admit that these days I don’t feel the end-of-summer panic that I used to. There was often that feeling that I was running out of time to take fun family trips and hang out with the kids before they were in school all day again. This year is different, though.
The thing is, lately it seems that I’m the only one who wants to do any of this “summer fun” stuff anyway. It’s a struggle to get complete buy-in from everyone for an evening beach trip, for example, and it’s like pulling teeth to get those same people to then agree to be in pictures of the event. Sigh. I take pictures because a few hours at the beach is over before I know it. The images make the good times last. But the older the kids get, the more they tend to see my camera as an invasion of their privacy (one kid much more than the other, but they still both have their moments). To some extent, they are correct, but I still wish they’d suck it up and do it, just for me. I don’t think they truly get how much my souvenir photos mean to me.
So, this week we did take that beach trip, but there was nobody in any of my images. Just scenery. And I will admit that I was pretty cranky about that at the time. Though, to be honest, the images I did get were nice. And the fact that there are no people in them doesn’t stop them from being souvenirs of the trip. Someday I’ll look back at these shots and say, “oh yeah. That was the time where we bickered most of the night and I spent half an hour stewing by myself and taking starburst shots of the boardwalk lights.” Those may not be my most pleasant beach memories ever, but they’d be accurate 😜
So, what is This Week in Pictures?
It’s a roundup of the microblogging I’ve done on Instagram all week. This includes photos I shot for Project 365 (the theme for 2018 is mornings: #myyearofmornings2018) and any other extra images I may have posted.
Photos taken with 📷 (Canon EOS 80 D) or 📱 (Samsung Galaxy S7).
