Weekend Favorites

I just found out this week that Instagram will be taking away the functionality that allows me to automatically collect my ♥’d images and share them here.

At first I was a little upset about it, but then I read their blog post and realized it actually makes a lot of sense. I guess I never thought about it from the perspective of the people whose photos I include here. I’ve always assumed that they’d be flattered to be included in a favorites mosaic, but maybe they wouldn’t! My sharing of a photo is beyond the control of the photographer who took it, and I suppose that’s not really cool when it comes down to it.

I am always careful to give full credit for each of the images I share, but not everyone is so diligent. I can see why some Instagram users would be uncomfortable with the kind of automated sharing we’re talking about.

The functionality goes away May 31, so I can probably get a few more weeks of these mosaics in before I run out of favorites to share. I’m not sure what the fate of Weekend Favorites will be after that. Technically, I could still populate the mosaics with stuff I find on Flickr, but to be totally honest, I am hardly ever on Flickr anymore. It would take me forever to fill up a mosaic at that rate. I really don’t think I want to take extra time to go to Flickr and grab images just for the sake of grabbing images. Using Instagram has been effortless and genuine because I am there ♥-ing things all the time anyway. It doesn’t require a special trip.

Oh well, all good things must come to an end eventually. Or, at least, they must evolve and change!
