Pedal | Lift + Press | Pedal Harder

So, I’ve been going to the gym three mornings a week. I’ve settled on a routine that really works for me right now: First I spend five minutes warming up on the recumbent bike, then I do the strength-training circuit (weight machines and such) for about half an hour, and then I go back to the bike, increase the difficulty, and ride for 10-15 minutes.

10 bars
When I get home, I treat myself to a cup of coffee and a homemade power bar. Yummy.

Fitness, for the first time in my life, is something that I’m thinking about frequently.

Music, for definitely NOT the first time in my life, is also on my mind a lot these days.

Today, the fitness and music thoughts collided, and I made a new playlist.

Pedal | Lift + Press | Pedal Harder, a playlist for your workout by Polka Dot Cottage

I’ve actually been working on this mix for some time, auditioning tracks through my earbuds at the gym or on my evening walks. I finally settled on a track listing this afternoon, burned a CD for the car, and added the playlist to 8tracks.

And then I thought of a song I forgot. Oops. So I re-arranged the playlist, burned a new CD for the car, and edited the playlist on 8tracks.

I think I’m done messing with it now. Would you like to listen to it?

These are all songs that are relatively new (or, at least new to me). I’ve never used any of them on a mix before. I’ve included some stuff that I might not normally listen to, but that really makes me feel energetic. And that, of course, is the point.

Feeling energetic is good 🙂

If you follow me on 8tracks, and you download their app for your phone, you can access this mix on the go – at the gym, walking briskly around the block, on a bike ride, wherever.

Of course, you can still listen to it while sitting on the couch, reading blogs on your laptop if that’s what you want, but I don’t think you’ll burn many calories that way…

However you choose to listen, I hope you enjoy it.

So tell me, what songs do you like to listen to for a burst of energy?

  1. That”s awesome!! Your power bars look yum…I love the packaging 🙂

    1. They *are* yum 🙂 They’re the “Lucy Bars” from this book, if you’re interested.

  2. You are sticking with your exercising! Good for you! That’s a good routine you have going too! I love how you share your music and make it so eye catching! My daughter has a playlist for me so when we are in the car she can still listen to her music but knows I like it too…it’s all upbeat. If I knew how to share it with you I would! Hubby and I are going back on our “eating healthy plan” Monday to try and lose some more weight. I’m going to try to get exercising in there too. Seeing your post is encouraging!

    1. It’s actually been easier to stick to than I originally thought. I’m about to go on a trip for a few days, though, which will interrupt my workout and healthy-eating streak. Historically, this is where I lose my mojo. I’m hoping that is not going to be the case this time!

As for the music, anyone can get an 8tracks.com account, and then it’s just a matter of dragging and dropping mp3s from your computer onto the “create playlist” page. I don’t know what your comfort-level is with technology, but if it’s not too high, your daughter could probably handle it 🙂

P.S. I think making a “cover” to go with the playlist is almost as much fun as making the playlist itself!

Good luck with your eating healthy plan! Glad I could be a source of encouragement 🙂
