TWiP: graph paper everywhere

This Week in Pictures (TWiP) at Polka Dot Cottage

Nerd alert. You will notice this week that I used a lot of graph paper. I am fairly confident that I have solved my pajama pants conundrum, but I haven’t actually sewn the test pair yet. This weekend, maybe. I just had to take a few days off from it, because I was clearly making it far too complicated. When I’m finished with this process I am going to have a whole bunch of barely wearable pajamas in my drawer 😜

Oh! I almost forgot to mention, this is the 1st anniversary of the very first TWiP post! I am so glad I started this series. I have such fun going back and looking at the mosaics. If you’d like a trip down memory lane, you can check out the first TWiP here. Thanks for reading along all year!

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the photos I shot for my Project 365 (one image each day for all of 2015), plus some everyday-life snapshots I posted on Instagram during the previous week.

Ready? Cast your mind back to this time last week…

365: 2015 164/365 – I like math, and I am decent at sewing, but I’m trying to make a pj pants pattern from my measurements and am not finding it intuitive at all. I have some kind of mental block with this kind of thing. I know I can do it, though, and I enjoy a puzzle, so I’ll keep plugging away. Tomorrow 🙂

Instagram: 82 degrees. I think I will brave it 😎

365: 2015 165/365 – We visited Grandma + Grandpa today, and had the first swim of the season 🙂

Instagram: I’m glad I took a few days off from thinking about this, because a formula came to me pretty easily this morning. I’ve yet to test it, but at least I have a starting point that makes some sense to me now ☺ The new #fancypants #sewing #pattern from Polka Dot Cottage #pdc is back on track ✂👖

Instagram: Progress! And after lunch I get to sew it together and see if it fits. Fingers crossed 😉 #fancypants #sewing #pdc

Instagram: Success! Sort of. The waist is all kinds of wrong, but I’ve already figured out how to adjust the process for the next one. Tomorrow, another prototype, and then it’s #tutorial-writing time! #fancypants #sewing #pattern #pdc #dslr

365: 2015 166/365 – I’m working on my next tutorial – pajama pants! So I made a pattern from my measurements and sewed the first prototype. There are problems in the waist area, but I have already figured out how to fix them for my next attempt tomorrow.

Instagram: Good morning ☺ Time to make some #pattern adjustments. #sewing #pdc #pdcfancypants

Instagram: Raise your hand if you’re a woman in her forties who used to sleep on sheets just like this as a little girl 🙋#pdcfancypants #pdc #sewing #vintage

Instagram: While I’ve been inside fussing with sewing and pattern making, the lilies have been blooming outside. 🌸

365: 2015 167/365 – My third ill-fated attempt at an easily-adaptable pj pants pattern. At least this time I only made shorts and didn’t waste as much fabric.

Instagram: Obviously, I am over-complicating this thing. I think a fresh start is in order. #pdcfancypants #pdc #sewing #pattern

365: 2015 168/365 – *sigh* I love farmer’s market season.

365: 2015 169/365 – Check out my new mug! I had it made at Zazzle. It features the granny square blanket I made for my son on the outside and a coordinating green on the inside. I love it! I made it public in case any of you want it, too 🙂*

365: 2015 170/365 – We’ve got a couple of wonky-looking daisies growing in our garden.

Thanks for taking a peek at this week’s photos! If you want to see this stuff as it happens, please feel free to follow me on Flickr.

I may already have plans to blog about some of these things in greater detail over the coming week, but be sure to leave a comment if there’s something in particular you want to know about!
