Description

Kids love these stripey friends. They’re easy to make with inexpensive yarn and mismatched buttons, and they’re fun to play with.

Required Skills

  • E-wrap cast-on and knit stitch on a round loom
  • Sock-knitting techniques on a round loom (short row heels, shaped toes, flat-closed bind-off). If you don’t know how to do these things, there are links included to resources that can help you learn.
  • Sewing a button

Tools and Materials

  • 1/2 skein worsted weight wool in stripe color A
  • 1/2 skein worsted weight wool in stripe color B
  • 1/4 skein worsted weight wool in nose color
  • 2 matching smaller buttons for eyes
  • 1 big focal button for the nose
  • Small amount of embroidery floss or thread
  • Small handful of pillow stuffing
  • 24-peg knitting loom
  • Loom hook
  • Tapestry needle
  • Embroidery needle

A Note About Knitting Looms

These instructions were originally written for the Blue Knifty Knitter loom, which has since been discontinued. You may still be able to find a used one online, but if you can’t, try looking for a loom that is meant for bulky yarn, and has between 22 and 26 pegs. Just be aware that your finished puppet size may vary, if you use a substitute loom.
