I found a few things to love about winter today.

I used to run an Internet radio station at Live365 called Polka Dot Radio. I gave that up in 2008 and since then, I’ve gotten my fix for music sharing by creating playlists, first at 8tracks, and now at Spotify.
The original radio station had a tagline of alt-folk, 1990's, and indie pop
, and for the most part, that is still a pretty good description of my musical taste. My current playlists are heavy on the alt-folk / indie pop / alternative sound, with a smattering of favorites from other decades peppered in there.
You can play all of my virtual mix tapes and get more details about them in the posts below. Or, just shuffle one of these two playlists.
Polka Dot Radio, which features a few days’ worth of tunes, spanning the stuff I was listening to in the late 80’s through to my current favorites. New music rotates in and out at the beginning of every month: | Polka Dot Radio Classic, which combines a bunch of the actual playlists that I used on the original radio station. This is a static playlist, and will not have any new music added to it: |
NOTE: I highly recommend listening to these playlists on Shuffle, otherwise you’ll get a lot of similar music clumped together. Shuffle will give you a better variety and more enjoyable listening experience.
Happy listening! 🎶
Pumpkin Spice
I was in the mood for something new to listen to in the car, and so last week Pumpkin Spice was born. Check out the playlist 🙂

It’s family fun in the form of CD mix-making! We all came up with our own track lists, and then designed our own covers. We’re ready for our next Summer road trip!

Oh, the lengths I go to, when I want a new batch of songs to listen to in the car. I’m not a perfectionist about much, but mix CDs? Definitely. They’re a labor of love. Check out my latest playlist.

Even for those of us who are perfectly content with our aging vehicles, there is still a little thrill that comes from having a brand new rental for a few days. For me, that thrill mostly comes in the form of newfangled musical choices. Satellite radio? MP3 CD? USB input? Yes, please. I’d like some […]

Boring Office Guy and I are quite the pair this week. If you’ve been keeping up with our photo blog, you’ve probably seen the pharmaceuticals pop into both of our gratitude streams over the past few days. I don’t like taking medicine for anything, if I can help it, but sometimes you just have to […]

Whatever would we do without Netflix? Well, we certainly wouldn’t be introducing our children to old episodes of The Monkees. And by extension, I most definitely would not be knitting a green wool hat with a pom-pom on top for my older son. But, we do have Netflix, and we have been renting The Monkees, […]

Before I say anything else: Penny, if you like surprises, stop reading here! I really like the way this image turned out. It’s the cover for a new mix CD I made. Penny and I like to exchange music from time to time – she’s introduced me to some excellent tunes (including one that I […]

Have I mentioned how much I like spring? I think I appreciate it more every year, as I grow to dislike winter at a similar rate. After a long cold spell, nothing invigorates me more than being able to throw open all of the windows and feel the lovely warm breeze on my skin. It’s […]

I have these days where I know there is work to be done. Days where I have a glorious four hours of time alone. Time alone that could do serious damage to my to-do list. But something distracts me. Something makes me spend my four hours doing other things. Things that feel like fun at […]
