TWiP: Elements and Earrings

This week in Pictures, Week 31, 2022

So many people slow down in August, take some time off. Maybe I should have done that, too, but instead I decided I needed a creative project to shake up my polymer clay world a bit. That has turned into the Earring of the Day, which you can see in my shop.

Then, just for kicks, I signed up for a photography project. I am taking part in Picture Elements, which is a prompt-based photography class, which explores 7 visual elements of art: color, line, shape, form, value, texture, and space.

Each day, as a new photography prompt comes in, I find myself thinking “I could do something in polymer that would fit that prompt.” I wish I had thought ahead and just committed to combining the two projects! That would have been an interesting twist, and it would have meant that I only had to think about one creative thing at a time. Ah, well. Live and learn! I’m still having fun so far, though ask me what I think after I’ve been at it for a full month, and we’ll see what I have to say then 😜

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the little (and big!) moments I have captured all week. Some of these images are posted on Instagram, but many aren’t posted anywhere but here. Some days there may be no photos, and other days there may be multiples.

Photos taken with 📷 (Canon EOS 80D) or 📱 (Samsung Galaxy S9).

Saturday

The second batch of earrings that I’ve started making for my Earring of the Day project that starts on Monday.
While earrings are baking, I’m knitting. One of my favorite things about knitting with cables is when you start to see the design emerge.

Sunday

More earrings today! I like some of these more than others, and I suspect a couple won’t make it as Earrings of the Day (unless I get desperate by the end of August and run out of better ideas 😁)

Monday

Aug 01 Balancing Act: This month, I’m participating in Picture Elements with Tracey Clark. Today’s prompt has us looking at shapes. I took a lot of pictures today when I was supposed to be working (wasn’t balancing all that well today, if I’m being honest!) and this is my favorite. It was just supposed to be the round cup, but there’s a surprise square reflection of my phone in the coffee 🔵🟦 😁

Tuesday

Aug 02 The Hue of You: Ever do a photo project where you just can’t figure out how to apply the daily prompt to your own life? Yeah, that’s not going to be a problem for me today 😜

Wednesday

Aug 03 Tune-in to Texture: I took apart one of my clay tools this past weekend when I noticed it’s nice texture. Without the other pieces in the way, it’s easy to roll onto the clay to impress this design into the polymer’s surface. Here’s an extreme close-up. Bonus points to any of my polymer peeps who know what tool this is 😁

Thursday

Aug 04 Hash Tagged: The small but mighty USB fan that sits on my desk.

Friday

Aug 5 Feeling Valued: I wish I’d realized earlier how much my polymer clay project and my photography project would overlap. I could have combined them 😁. Anyway, today has been about gradients for both projects. I nearly just recycled the photo of my earrings, but then I took a shower, and oh look! A gradient in my soap 🧼
Another bit of earring making from the last few days. I’m enjoying playing around with techniques I haven’t used in many years (and in some instances, ever)
Aidan is still traveling so he checks in from time to time and we have a family video chat ❤

Thanks for helping me celebrate the week! If you want to see some of this stuff as it happens, please feel free to follow me on Instagram ♥
