TWiP: Ornament Season Begins

This Week in Pictures, Week 47, 2021

Ah, Thanksgiving week. I have always loved Thanksgiving, both for the opportunity to gather with family, and as a harbinger of the Christmas season. But during years such as this one, where I have been gainfully employed, I have also come to appreciate Thanksgiving for the four-day weekend it provides 🙂

Lots of creative things happened this week, including the first steps towards filling some Family Portrait Ornament orders. Yep, I am making ornaments for the first time in six years! (Coincidentally, I discovered that there was also a 6-year gap the previous time I made them. So 2009, 2015, and 2021 have been ornament-making years – I’m hoping that the pattern doesn’t continue. It would be nice to make them more frequently than that.)

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the little (and big!) moments I have captured all week. Some of these images are posted on Instagram, but many aren’t posted anywhere but here. Some days there may be no photos, and other days there may be multiples. It’s more laid back than the Project 365s of previous years. You can learn more here 🙂

Here’s a very short video, featuring 1.5-second moments from the week:

Saturday

I’ve come to the conclusion that the balance of my clay order (from JULY!) is not going to get here in time to make many family portrait ornaments this year 😑 It’s not all bad news, though. I was able to check what did arrive and what I could scrounge up from my stash, and I should have enough to complete the orders I’ve accepted already, assuming nobody has auburn, red, or strawberry blonde hair (I’m completely lacking in the red and orange clay department). Once I’ve mixed up my color recipes I will have a better idea whether I can accept a few more orders 🤞🏻
The sun is shining today, so a little fun with UV resin is on the menu.

Sunday

Sunday morning, biscotti in bed, and a brand new project on the needles ❤️
Progress!

Thursday

I am surrounded by people who have no appreciation for the artistry of the Polaroid picture 😆. I see purposeful motion blur, a flurry of activity in the preparation of the the Thanksgiving feast. Neil looks at it and says, “it’s blurry.” 🤦🏻‍♀️

Friday

This morning I was out of bed at 7:30am, setting up the ornament-making workspace, and putting together the first of the 2021 families. That’s one ornament, ready for the oven. After baking, I’ll give the family eyes, an inscription, and a cord to hang from, and send them on their merry way 😊

Thanks for helping me celebrate the week! If you want to see some of this stuff as it happens, please feel free to follow me on Instagram ♥
