TWiP: Close to Home

This Week in Pictures, Week 33, 2021

As is my custom, I took a quick look at the mosaics from this week in previous years before I posted, and it seems that the 33rd week of the year is very much a week of getaways. Between day trips to the beach, a long weekend in Lancaster County in 2018, and a full week in Ireland in 2019, this is an adventurous time of year for us.

Unfortunately, I seem to have broken the streak this year. I did have some fun close to home, though. And I bought myself a handful of zinnias, which is keeping me more entertained than one can reasonably expect them to. So, it’s all good 🙂

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the little (and big!) moments I have captured all week. Some of these images are posted on Instagram, but many aren’t posted anywhere but here. Some days there may be no photos, and other days there may be multiples. It’s more laid back than the Project 365s of previous years. You can learn more here 🙂

Photos taken with 📷 (Canon EOS 80D) or 📱 (Samsung Galaxy S9).

TWiP Clips

Here’s a very short video, featuring 1.5-second moments from the week:

Saturday

My mother and my aunt came over today. Our project: modernize my mom’s vintage 1990s ceramic (or maybe porcelain? I don’t actually know the difference) heart. First we cut off all of the decorations, and then I made some new embellishments out of polymer clay. I tied on a new ribbon, and now it’s ready for hanging once again 🙂. (You can see the “before” shot on Instagram, if you’re interested.)

Sunday

Sometimes when you think to look up, you see the strangest things. Case in point: this flower growing out of our chimney 🤔

Tuesday

We were going to go to the beach tonight, but at the last minute we decided to stay home. So I went out and bought some birthday dessert ingredients, and whipped up a few little somethings for us to celebrate Neil’s special day.

Wednesday

Another video, this one three days in the making, all about how I make my morning coffee. Spoiler alert: I cold brew some concentrate for 24 hours, add equal parts concentrate and boiling water, and bam! A hot cup of morning coffee that doesn’t offend the delicate senses of my coffee-loathing spouse. I’ve also recently been making my own coffee bags for brewing instead of buying them, and that is shown here, too.

Friday

Another stop at the farm in search of zinnias, another opportunity to photograph some chickens.
So, I did get some flowers for my desk this time 💗. And of course, their bright colors gave me another excuse to play with my instant cameras.

This image is from my Instax Wide 300 with two layers of masking tape over the flash. I think it still came out too flash-y.

This image is from my Polaroid OneStep+ and was taken in manual mode through the app. I love it, even if it is a bit too dark.

I love having fresh flowers on my desk. I need to do it more often.

Thanks for helping me celebrate the week! If you want to see this stuff as it happens, please feel free to follow me on Instagram ♥
