TWiP: The Red Mill and other stories

This Week in Pictures, Week 26, 2021

Finally, a week where I actually took some pictures, LOL! I have been enjoying the more laid-back style of my photo practice this year, but I will be the first to admit that sometimes it doesn’t lend itself to the most compelling of weekly TWiP posts. There have been some weeks where my mosaic barely had five images in it, many of them not particularly interesting.

This week, though… this week was perfect. Between a little solo getaway at the beginning, and a day off at the end, and just the fact that I managed to pick up a camera of some kind every single day, I have a very full mosaic this week. And some of these images I really love. (You can tell that I am enamored by an image when I add it to my shuffle of desktop backgrounds, and several of these have made that cut 😍)

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the little (and big!) moments I have captured all week. Some of these images are posted on Instagram, but many aren’t posted anywhere but here. Some days there may be no photos, and other days there may be multiples. It’s more laid back than the Project 365s of previous years. You can learn more here 🙂

Photos taken with 📷 (Canon EOS 80D) or 📱 (Samsung Galaxy S9).

TWiP Clips

Last week was a good week. It started with my solo mini vacation and ended with me setting up to work on a potential polymer clay tutorial. Here’s a very short video, featuring 1.5-second moments:

Saturday

I’m having an adventure today! I spent the day exploring the quirky shops of Frenchtown, NJ and photographing its bridge (after a white knuckle ride across… it’s so narrow!)
I checked into a hotel that I intend never to stay in again (it’s shabby and kind of creepy).

I went back out later to take some pictures of the most photographed building in Clinton (the Red Mill), before settling in at the hotel for the night.
Tomorrow I’ll probably take the long way home, and find a quaint coffee shop to stop in. I need to do this more often (hotel optional). It’s fun to be a tourist in my own back yard. I haven’t traveled more than 45 minutes away from home today, but it feels like I’ve taken a long trip.

Sunday

This morning I stopped for coffee at Scout’s coffee shop in High Bridge (salted chocolate chip scone and maple latte, ftw!)
They had little buckets of chalk outside for drawing on the sidewalk (I didn’t indulge, just photographed someone else’s work).
I took the scenic route home, which took twice as long as the highway, but was often breathtakingly beautiful.
I’m home! I bought this magnet during my little excursion to remind myself to do this kind of thing more often 💗.

Monday

Next color up in my summer of rainbow hair? Purple! The greens and blues are over. Next week begins the pinks and reds and oranges. This project is being brought to you by my gray face framing hairs. The color is very, very subtle on brown, but it’s much more expressive on gray 💜

Story for Monday

Tuesday

I took this picture in my bedroom of this other picture I took in my laundry room. And by “laundry room” I mean “tiny section of the basement”. I hope these decades old washer and dryer never die, because it might be easier to just knock down the outer basement wall than to try to get them out of the house the right way 😜

Wednesday

Still playing with my Instax Wide 300. I really like this camera, but I wish I could control the flash. This image would have been much better without it. You can’t even tell that the computer screens were on.

Thursday

Pizza rolls and reading. I have a few library books and a magazine to catch up on!

Friday

I am dying to get my hands on some more Premo Sculpey polymer clay! This is all I have left. The dregs of my stash. I have been thinking about making Family Portrait Ornaments again this year (only possible if I start really early in the season, since I have a Day Job now, and I didn’t have one the last several times I offered ornaments) but that can’t happen unless I get some more clay. I also have an idea for a new tutorial that I could put together this weekend, but only if I have good colors. Time to organize this little stash and see if anything is possible…

Thanks for helping me celebrate the week! If you want to see this stuff as it happens, please feel free to follow me on Instagram ♥
