I’ve been thinking about what my photography practice will look like next year. It’s entirely possible, after twelve Project 365 iterations, I may have had enough of that. I am certainly feeling like my daily photos are lacking something, but I’m not entirely sure what. Maybe it’s the spirit of experimentation and learning that I brought with me into those early projects. Or maybe it’s just that I am doing basically the same thing all day every day, and there’s nothing super exciting to photograph in my life. I don’t know. What I do know is that next year, my photo-taking practice is going to look different.
I had gone back to Flickr this year, but I feel that may have been a mistake, so next year it’ll be back to Instagram.
And I will be reexamining the daily aspect of my practice as well. After all, some days are just not that interesting. Why force it? While other days, there may be many exciting things going on. Why limit myself to just one photo?
So, those are my thoughts so far, but I would like to finish out this year’s 365 Project before making any significant changes.
With that in mind, I have decided to shake things up for myself in a minor way, by taking Picture Fall with Tracey Clark for the month of October, and using those prompts as my Project 365 pictures. I’ve taken Picture Fall before, in 2010 when it was first offered. (I thought I had done the prompts again at another time, but I can’t find any proof of that – I must have been imagining it!). Anyway, I’m hoping Picture Fall will force me to point my lens at something different once in a while.
And once Picture Fall is over? I don’t know. Maybe I’ll go back to normal for November, and dig out the old Picture the Holidays prompts (for the fourth time!) for December? No idea. I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.
It’s a roundup of the microblogging I’ve done on Flickr and Instagram all week. This includes photos I shot for Project 365 and any other extra images I may have posted.
