TWiP: Get Out

This Week in Pictures, Week 23, 2020

I’m a homebody, but this week I have really felt a pull to get out and do things. Saturday my sister took my mom and I out to the Hackensack River to look for bald eagles, Sunday I went to the Summit NJ Farmers Market, and on Friday I visited Peony’s Envy in Bernardsville. You can see all of these visits in the stories for those days.

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the microblogging I’ve done on Flickr and Instagram all week. This includes photos I shot for Project 365 and any other extra images I may have posted.

Photos taken with 📷 (Canon EOS 80D) or 📱 (Samsung Galaxy S9).

Ready? Cast your mind back to Saturday last week…

Saturday

Day 28/31: A Simple Study
It fascinates me that such a big poofy flower can emerge from that relatively small bud. It must be so compact just before it bursts open.

Day 29/30: Bubble Up
Today’s prompt is all about making mundane tasks fun. Well, I put off mending these favorite old pajama pants for literally years, until it occurred to me that I could patch them with a completely different fabric and make them kind of quirky.

Day 30/31: Show Your Work
So, I still have a full time job, but when I’m not doing that, I’m sewing masks. And honestly, if you’d told me two months ago that I would have any interest whatsoever in sewing a few hundred masks, I’d have said you were mistaken. But I have done just that. I think the count stands near 250 now, and as you can see, I have the parts cut out for many many more.

I took a break for a few days and did some selfish sewing (made two new summer shirts), and now I’m back to mask making.

Sunday

It’s been so long since I’ve been to a summer farmer’s market! Today, I ventured out to a socially-distant masks-required Sunday market and got some pickles, goat’s milk soap, a pepper, some strawberries and a few stalks of rhubarb. The latter two items are featuring prominently in the crisp I am baking.

I love it when there’s fruit crisp for breakfast.

Day 28/31: Don’t Miss It
My son doesn’t leave as many creative messes around as he used to, but I still find evidence of what he’s been up to now and then.

Day 31/31: A Whole New World
The sky has been empty for the last few months. That’s unusual around here. (And that is #pspicturehome in the bag. Though, I decided to do Picture Home 2, so it’s not actually the end 😁)

Prompt 1: Just Keep Growing.
The peonies are in full swing now. I look forward to this every year.

Working from home, for me, is so much better than working in the office, but sometimes it’s hard to get my mind into it. It just feels like swimming in molasses. On those days, it is nice to be able to turn off my computer after putting in my time, and just spend s few minutes in the late afternoon sunny spot on the bed doing nothing at all.

Thursday

Prompt 3/30: Kitchen Design
It has been suggested (and by “suggested” I mean “stated emphatically by my husband”) that I have a mug problem.

Friday

157/366
There’s a peony garden not too far from home that I have been wanting to visit for a long time, but I could never seem to work in out. Working from home gave me a perfect opportunity to run out in the middle of the day and enjoy the photo op. It was so beautiful. And the owner gave me some tips for saving my own struggling peony plant, so bonus!

Did you know that peonies come in 6000 varieties? Suddenly the two I have seem woefully inadequate.
