It’s been a stitchy week. I’ve been essentially living and breathing mask-making. I’m getting enjoyment out of the whole process, from the pawing through my stash for the perfect fabrics, to sewing them, packing them, and dropping them in the mailbox (or the pickup box on my front steps for the locals).
It’s been a long time since I’ve been so interested in using my sewing machine, and I hope it continues. I started out this mask-making thing by mailing them out to members of my family, and then donating a few dozen to local organizations. And then I made a few dozen more to donate. And then I thought, “maybe there are people who might like to buy one,” so I put them in the shop.
I have now discovered that there are, indeed, people who might like to buy one, and I’ve been sewing during every lunch break, evening, and weekend ever since. I will continue to donate masks locally, and fill orders from the Polka Dot Cottage Shop, for as long as it’s sustainable for me to do so.
Strangely enough, there’s not a lot of this activity reflected in my images this time. Blame Picture Home and my day job 😀
On a related note, I knew I had a lot of fabric, but I had no idea I had SO MUCH! I have either sewed or cut out the fabric for nearly 300 masks at this point, and I only just now am running out of backing flannel, and seeing the end of my spool of elastic. I still have plenty of quilting cottons to use for the front, though. I could completely get away with not buying any more fabric for some time. Though I have to admit, I splurged this weekend and got myself some 10-inch squares from Anna Maria Horner’s Hindsight collection, and some cute mint green polka dot flannel to go with it. Once it arrives, I will sew up a bunch of masks that are going to be so pretty, I will probably have trouble letting go of them 😜
It’s a roundup of the microblogging I’ve done on Flickr and Instagram all week. This includes photos I shot for Project 365 and any other extra images I may have posted.
May Baby Blanket show-and-tell (2015) This one, while quite small, took me forever! The actual crocheting went fairly quickly, but I changed my mind about color and design about thirty times...
Weekend Favorites (2013) Well, you may have figured out by now that I write these Friday morning posts on Thursday nights.
