TWiP: Form and Function

This Week in Pictures, Week 23, 2018

Hello! If you’re not viewing this post directly on my website, I hope that you will click through and take a look at the changes I’ve made in the past week. I’m really, really happy with the way everything has turned out! Here’s a rundown of what’s new:

  1. I transferred the entire site from it’s comfortable old location to a new hosting company, where I’d have more flexibility.
  2. I got an SSL Certificate, which basically means that every aspect of your browsing experience is secure. This is good news for everyone, but in particular it should appeal to those who might want to treat themselves to a little something in the shop.
  3. I created a privacy policy, as I mentioned earlier this week.
  4. As you may know, I work for a company that makes web server software and caching solutions. You may not know what any of that means, but I can tell you that this new hosting allows me to use the products I’ve been writing about for my Day Job for the last year-and-a-half. That’s pretty cool to me, but it should also be cool to you because it means Polka Dot Cottage is running a lot more quickly and efficiently than it used to. Pages should load pretty fast for you now.
  5. I wasn’t planning to make any aesthetic changes, but it happened anyway… While I was tweaking my settings for efficiency purposes, I realized a few of the things I was doing visually were slowing down the site. So, I changed those things, and that set off a whole string of updates, resulting in the new look you see before you.

So, that’s it. It took the better part of a week to get it all done, but I think it was worth it. I think the site looks nicer, and it definitely works better under the hood. Is there still room for improvement? Sure. Will I continue to make little tweaks here and there? Naturally 🙂

Please let me know if you run into anything quirky, particularly in the shop. I had a customer report that she was unable to download a pattern she ordered. I want to nip problems like that in the bud, so definitely get in touch if you have a similar experience with anything!

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the microblogging I’ve done on Instagram all week. This includes photos I shot for Project 365 (the theme for 2018 is mornings: #myyearofmornings2018) and any other extra images I may have posted.

  1. There is no picture for Thursday.
Fast fast fast getting on here. Thanks for that.

  2. Hi, Patty! I’m glad you enjoyed the improved speed 🙂 The Thursday image must have had a temporary glitch, because it worked when I looked at it. I appreciate the feedback!

  3. We have turkeys that visit also. So funny!! Named them Elvis and Priscilla. Love the sweater color.

    1. Ha! Elvis and Priscilla! That’s great 🙂
I like the sweater color, too. I don’t usually do things in shades of purple, but I’m liking it.
