TWiP: Rain, sun, sand, and peonies

This Week in Pictures (TWiP) at Polka Dot Cottage

Oh, so many pictures this week! I’ll spare you the long introductory paragraph because I’ve pretty much told the whole story in image captions. ☺

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the photos I shot for Project 365 (one image each day for all of 2016), plus some snapshots I posted on Instagram during the previous week.

Ready? Cast your mind back to this time last week…

Instagram πŸ“±: This is the way to start a day πŸ˜Šβ˜• . [Taken on the Ocean City boardwalk.]

Instagram πŸ“±: It’s rainy and windy on the boardwalk β˜” [Taken on the Ocean City boardwalk.]

365 πŸ“·: 2016 142/366 – So, we’ve been in Ocean City, NJ since last night. Yesterday was a beautiful day, but we missed most of it. Today started out simply cloudy, but it turned windy and rainy before lunch. It’s still raining and cold now, but I am cautiously optimistic that tomorrow will be less wet. [Taken from the balcony of the Oceanfront Motel.]

Instagram πŸ“±: Mama’s got a new toy ☺ Happy Birthday to me! πŸŽ‚ Thanks, @clarkesworld ☺ [Taken in our hotel room.]

Instagram πŸ“±: Delicious breakfast today, and so photogenicπŸ˜„ #sunrisecafeoc [Taken at the Sunrise Cafe.]

Instagram πŸ“±: So, it’s still raining. I got tired of hanging out in the hotel room, so I drove into town. Normally I’d walk it, but I have a sore foot, and, more importantly so. much. rain. Now I’m kicking back in a comfy chair at my favorite local coffee place, contemplating where I should drag my family out for my birthday dinner later ☺ β˜” πŸŽ‚ [Taken at Ocean City Coffee Company.]

365 πŸ“·: 2016 143/366 – This is pretty much the same view as yesterday’s post (although there’s daylight in this one, and a lady with a cheery red umbrella), but that’s mainly because it’s pretty much been the same weather as yesterday. It’s too wet to do much of anything or to bring my camera anywhere. [Taken from the balcony of the Oceanfront Motel.]

Instagram πŸ“±: This is the way to Monday ☺. As an added bonus, this is the best looking day since we’ve been here. It could almost be described as “sunny.” Almost. 😎 [Taken on the Ocean City boardwalk.]

Instagram πŸ“±: Hey! We’re on the beach!😎 [Taken on the beach.]

365 πŸ“·: 2016 144/366 – Guess what. No rain today ☺ We even got to hang out on the beach for a little while. I’m so glad we got one nice day before our long weekend is over! [Taken on the beach.]

Instagram πŸ“±: Good morning, Instagram! It’s our last day in Ocean City, and we’ve got surprise sunshine and warmth! I actually took off my sweater on my walk to the coffee shop. My arms haven’t been bare much at all for this trip. Leaving on a high note is nice, but it’s also a lot harder than it would be in a thunderstormπŸ˜‰ [Taken on the Ocean City boardwalk.]

Instagram πŸ“±: Oh, OK. One more day at the shore won’t kill me 😎🌞 #changeofplans [Taken on the balcony of our hotel.]

Instagram πŸ“±: I sometimes like to post a birthday selfie, but it slipped my mind this year. So here I am, 45 years and 2 days old 😊. I’m enjoying this bonus day at the shore, walking down the boardwalk to get peanut butter custard with rainbow sprinkles, listening to music, buying and wearing a new batik dress, letting my cheeks get a little bit pink from the sun… Now, I think I’ll go lounge around with a book, and maybe take a little nap. πŸ’Ÿ [Taken in our hotel room.]

365 πŸ“·: 2016 145/366 – So, the sun is setting on our little Ocean City getaway. Even with this one extra day we tacked on to our trip at the last minute, it still leaves us craving more. A long weekend is never enough! [Taken from the balcony of the Oceanfront Motel.]

Instagram πŸ“±: A little after supper tea by the ocean 😊. This is lovely. A little bit chilly, and I kind of wish I’d brought some knitting or crocheting, but still lovely. ❀ Tomorrow we go home. And this time I mean it πŸ˜‰ [Taken on the balcony of our hotel.]

Instagram πŸ“±: A little skee ball before we hit the road😊 [Taken at Jilly’s Arcade.]

Instagram πŸ“±: Well, we’re home. I walked so much in Ocean City that I feel like my feet will never speak to me again. I’m hoping they’ll forgive me if I spend the rest of the afternoon keeping them elevated, sipping a wine cooler, and playing games on my tablet. Fingers crossed.

365 πŸ“·: 2016 146/366 – We got home in the early afternoon today, and none of our peonies had opened yet. I went outside after supper, though, and look what I found! I can’t wait until a few more open up and I can bring them in the house. to decorate the kitchen table! On a related note: I have a kitchen table to clean off…

Instagram πŸ“±: Good morning, Instagramβ˜•My beach quilt is all sandy, so I slept under my Amy Butler Lotus lap quilt. I love it, but it’s not exactly bed size! I’m taking it slowly this morning and nursing my injured feet. Apparently walking 3x your normal amount for 5 days, and in shoes that offer no support whatsoever, can lead to soreness and (by day 5) stabby pain. Who knew?

365 πŸ“·: 2016 147/366 – How inconvenient to decide I want an iced coffee *after* I’ve already changed into my jammies for the night. Too bad Starbucks doesn’t deliver πŸ˜€

Instagram πŸ“±: The peonies are in bloom! And for the first time ever, I can cut three of them to bring inside and still have plenty left to look pretty on the plant. It’s so nice to see these flowers thriving. I β™₯ them.

365 πŸ“·: 2016 148/366 – I cut three peonies this morning but I haven’t decided where to put them. So far I am just carrying them from room to room with me, setting them down wherever I am planning to be for a while ☺. Right now, I’m planning to be sitting on the bed, watching last week’s Wallander, and elevating my sore left foot.

Thanks for taking a peek at this week’s photos! If you want to see this stuff as it happens, please feel free to follow me on FlickrΒ and/or Instagram.

I may already have plans to blog about some of these things in greater detail over the coming week, but be sure to leave a comment if there’s something in particular you want to know about!

    1. I love living near the ocean. I hope you get to travel here sometime! I have a Canon Rebel DSLR, but for the first time on our annual trip, I actually took the majority of my photos with my Samsung phone. It’s surprisingly more than adequate πŸ˜„
