Lady Kina

I completed my Lady Kina on a bleary-eyed Wednesday night, and stuffed her into a bag to be dealt with the next day. We were traveling to Burlington, Massachusetts on Thursday, as we usually do at this time of year, and there was no time for finishing my knitting nicely.

This is why late Thursday afternoon found me lightly blocking my sweater on the floor of a hotel room.

And Friday morning found me lurking around the hotel pool, setting my camera down on crooked tables, and using the self-timer in pursuit of the glamour shot for my still-slightly-damp Lady Kina.

The shots are anything but glamorous, and the sweater is, well, I don’t know. I kind of like it, and I kind of don’t.

For one thing, it got much longer with the blocking. Bigger is not necessarily a bad thing, and I am pretty sure I can be happy with a nice roomy sweater, but it wasn’t what I was envisioning when I started.

The sleeves, though, might be a dealbreaker for me. They’re rather gigantic. I’m not sure the pictures make it clear just how big they are.

I’m actually still at the hotel, about an hour away from checkout (and I’m blogging instead of packing, of course) and I only have a limited selection of clothes with me. It’s entirely possible that I’m not trying the sweater on with the right outfit.

I’ll reserve my final judgement until I’m home and can try it with other things (like maybe a long sleeve white tissue tee and some cuffed skinny jeans).

I used one of my grandmother’s mother of pearl buttons.

What do you think about the sleeves? Are they too big, or do they look like they’re supposed to be like that? This is not the first time I have ended up with sleeves too wide. I think I am routinely choosing sizes too big with some patterns.

  1. Now I want to knit this. I think you might like the sleeves better with a long sleeve tee underneath. I looked at some of the other’s versions on Ravelry and the sleeve width is all over the board.

    1. I noticed that, too. I really prefer it with the tighter sleeves, but we’ll see. I think a long-sleeved tee is probably key. I haven’t gotten around to trying it yet.

  2. I agree with Kat. And it IS NICE!!!!!! I haven’t knit in years but this makes me want to give it a try again.

    1. Thanks 🙂 It’s a free pattern, you should give it a shot!
