I knit a hat.

Well, hey there, you.

I’ve been working on several different knitting and crochet projects at once lately, which is so unlike me! I prefer to focus on one project at a time, power through it, and then move on to the next. But for some reason, I’ve been dabbling.

All of this lack-of-focus has made me lose track of what I have shown you and what I have not. I finished this slouchy hat a few weeks ago. I even took the glamour shots (such as they are – a lot of arms-length camera work in less-than-ideal lighting). But I never wrote about it.

New slouchy hat for me.

So. This hat. I have a history of making myself hats that I never wear, and for some time, I’ve been perusing Ravelry in search of the perfect pattern. It had to have some slouch to it. It had to look nice on my head. And it would be nice if it also had some interesting stitch work, preferably cables.

Well, two out of three ain’t bad. I ended up choosing this super simple pattern with some ribbing at the brim and the rest in stockinette, because I had this amazing yarn I bought at Rhinebeck, and I figured a complicated stitch pattern would just get lost among the colors. This yarn really does all of the interesting work on this hat.

So, it was super simple, super fast, and oh! the alpaca yarn is super soft. I really love it.

I knit this sucker in just one day!

Just one problem… I really haven’t satisfied that itch to try an interesting stitch pattern. I predict another hat on my needles this winter! Probably something from Tin Can Knits. Those ladies know how to design really cool hats!

  1. Nice!! TinCanKnits does have some really pretty designs…love the Sitka Spruce. I love the yarn you chose. 🙂

    1. Me too. It’s so soft and pretty. I like Tin Can Knits’ Apple Pie pattern, and basically any of them with cables in them!

  2. The hat looks great! Love the yarn, and am always looking for a good hat pattern – will have to look at hers.

One way to make K1/P1 ribbing less boring is to switch it up to Twisted Rib by doing the K1’s through the back of the stitch.

    1. I did that on one of the sweaters I knit recently. I liked the effect.

  3. try this hat pattern from Michelle Hunter. it is an awesome hat and easy to make.

    1. That’s interesting. I’ve never seen colorwork on cables before!

      1. I made a hat using my own yarns. it even won a blue at the county fair. Was a super simple pattern to follow

  4. I just made a slouchy hat for my SIL for Christmas. Here’s the link to the pattern:

It has a nice stitch pattern that is easy to memorize without being stuck reading a pattern.

    1. Nice! And I like the little story you wrote to go with it 🙂

  5. I knit a hat (or 12) for Christmas gifts this year. Mostly fair isle. I really like the shape of yours here. Might have to try it. Thank you for the inspiration.

    1. Oh, yes, I saw all of those hats on your blog recently – so pretty! I have yet to try fair isle, but I think I may before too long. It’s starting to intrigue me!

  6. That hat looks great, and so warm too! What lovely bright colours – sure to bring a smile in these cold winter months!
