TWiP: Newness

This Week in Pictures

This past week saw us buying a used (or, “pre-owned” if you want to get classier about it) car, spending Labor Day with family enjoying what may be the last dip in the pool of the season, and getting back into the school thing.

Both boys just started new schools: high school for Aidan and middle school for Eamonn. That puts us on new (earlier) schedules, and releases me from taxi duty for the first time in four years. (Wheeeee!)

Thursday morning, Aidan left the house before 7:00. Eamonn followed an hour later. And I was left there wondering what to do with myself!

It’s not that I have nothing to do, don’t get me wrong. There’s plenty. But I had such a predictable (and busy) structure to the morning during past school years, and it made it easier to figure out where to fit in things like breakfast, showering, the gym… The fact that I had very little choice about the schedule was actually helpful.

Now that I technically don’t even have to get dressed before the kids leave in the morning puts a whole different spin on things. I am going to have to be much more self-disciplined than before, if I want to avoid nerding out on my laptop in my pj’s all morning. Wish me luck.

So, what is This Week in Pictures?

It’s a roundup of the photos I shot for my Project 365, plus some everyday-life images I posted on Instagram during the previous week. (FYI, my daily photo project this year has changing monthly themes. August’s theme was “Soul” based on the exercises in Alessandra Cave’s new book Shooting With Soul. For September, I’m taking a break from photo prompts and simplifying with an easy theme: a month of mugs.)

Ready? Cast your mind back to this time last week…

Saturday

365: Soul 30/31 – Exercise 22: Traditions – All four times I have gotten a new car since 1993, I have listened to the same album on the way home from the dealer. Rites of Passage, FTW!

Sunday

365: Soul 31/31 – Exercise 36: Fresh Flowers – I bought myself some gerbera daisies and lilies at Trader Joe’s today.

Monday

365: Mugs 1/30 – Kicking off my "Month of Mugs" with this morning’s tableau. Breakfast in my PJ’s with a video from the "Gatherings Through the Lens" class I am taking.

Tuesday

365: Mugs 2/30 – This morning I took my coffee to-go: physicals and hair cuts for the boys.

Wednesday

365: Mugs 3/30 – My second cup, and a maple leaf cookie, hanging out on the front steps, waiting for the boy to come home from high school orientation.

Thursday

365: Mugs 4/30 – I took myself out to Starbucks for breakfast this morning.

Friday

365: Mugs 5/30 – I spent entirely too much time sitting in a car dealer waiting room today while they took care of a few things they still owed me, but on the bright side, I am 3 inches closer to being done knitting this sweater.

Thanks for taking a peek at this week’s photos! If you want to see this stuff as it happens, please feel free to follow me on Flickr.

I may already have plans to blog about some of these things in greater detail over the coming week, but be sure to leave a comment if there’s something in particular you want to know about!
