Everyday Cardigan KAL: Finishing the body!

Everyday Cardigan KAL: Finishing the Body, at Polka Dot Cottage

So, here we are at one of the more exciting parts of sweater-knitting: finishing the body. For those of you who are making the cap sleeve version, you will actually be completely finished knitting after this week! The rest of you will be starting an adventure of picking up stitches and knitting on double-pointed-needles. But let’s not think about that just yet. For now, let’s focus on finishing up that body…

At this point, you should have 13 inches of stockinette stitch, as measured from the underarm.

Work 10 Ribbing Rows, just like the ribbing rows in the yoke.

Bind off all sts, and the body is complete!

Cap sleeve people, your work here is complete. You can feel free to weave in your ends, sew on some buttons, and wear your new creation out and about!

In a few weeks (after the long sleeve people catch up) I will share some video resources for weaving in ends, sewing buttons, and blocking, so stay tuned for that if you are unsure about any of those steps.

Also, in the next few days I will do a proper show-and-tell for this short-sleeved version.

Next week

We’ll get started on the sleeves. This part can be intimidating if you’ve never done it before, but don’t worry – I’ll talk you through it, and I’ll line up a nice selection of videos that can help you.

Happy knitting! (and, as always, if you have any questions, be sure to ask in the comments!)
