Everyday Cardigan KAL: Underarm increases and more of the body

Everyday Cardigan: Underarm Increases, and more of the Body

Good morning! How is everybody doing? How is the pace of this KAL going for you? Too slow? Too fast? I find that one of the things that helps me get through an overwhelming project is to make smaller weekly goals for myself. That’s what I’ve been trying to do with this knit-along, too. I hope it’s helped you keep up some momentum!

So, if you’re with me, then you have knit up to 2 inches past the underarms, and are ready to start your next right-side row. Today, we’ll do one last increase row, and then embark on what may be the most boring part of the whole project. Sounds like fun, right?

Underarm Increases

On next RS row, increase two sts at each underarm, one at the beginning of the armhole, and one at the end, as shown above.

You can eyeball this, or you can use a more specific instruction as provided in the PDF pattern.

Body

The rest of the body should hold no surprises. You’ll be knitting an additional 11 inches of Stockinette Rows (for a total of 13 inches from the underarm). This is perfect mindless TV knitting. The only challenge is remembering your buttonholes. As long as you keep careful count of your rows, and make a mental note of the next buttonhole row, this shouldn’t pose a problem.

And that, my friends, is really all I have to say this week! Simple, no?

Next week

I think you are probably going to be busy for a while with the rest of the body. I wouldn’t expect you to be finished with it by next Monday, unless you have an abundance of knitting time. As a result, next week will really just be more of the same. Two weeks from now, we’ll talk about the ribbing at the hem, and binding off the body – that will be an exciting moment!

Any questions about this week’s lesson, please leave a comment!

  1. […] Last week’s assignment was bigger than usual, so I’m giving you some extra time to work on it before moving on to the next part. […]
