More December Merriment

Day 09 - Monochromatic magic

Day 10 - Twinkle Twinkle

Day 11 - Minimalism

Day 12 - All is calm

Day 13 - Simply divine

Day 14 - Sincerely yours

Day 15 - Prep & primp

Day 16 - The season of lights

This past week’s Picture the Holidays, prompts were:

  • Monochromatic Magic
  • Twinkle Twinkle
  • Minimalist
  • All is Calm
  • Simply Divine
  • Sincerely Yours
  • Prep & Primp
  • The Season of Lights

A prompt arrives in my email inbox each morning, along with a sample image and an explanation of what the prompt is supposed to mean. Sometimes the titles alone, when you compare them to my images, don’t seem to make sense. Since I can’t share the class email with you, you’ll just have to trust my interpretation, I guess. >grin<

Here are some more straightforwardly merry photos. If you’ll recall, I am making an effort this December to do at least one “merry” activity most days, no matter how small it may be. I’m using the Very Merry Advent book for inspiration, but still doing plenty of my own activities, and uploading the images to Instagram.

This is how the merriment experiment went last week:

_17

I took some decorations out of the attic.

_19

I made the task of shoveling more bearable by bringing my camera outside for some blue hour snow pictures.

_20

I made orange pomanders for the first time. (I love them in that big aqua bowl!)

I bought a sparkly new decoration for the living room.

We had a family Christmas movie night.

The boys and I visited my brother and his fiance in their new apartment, and he played Christmas carols for us on his guitar.

I got wacky with a string of lights and some reflective surfaces in order to make nice bokeh for the Picture the Holidays prompt.

So that’s my week in photos, pretty much. I’d like to post one of these again next Monday, but it’s possible that I won’t have my act quite together enough for that. In fact, you might want to lower any expectations you may have about my posting schedule over the next few weeks. I will continue to do the weekend links, and I have some sewing that I’d like to show you, but aside from that, I may be a wee bit scarce around here.

But then, you’re all probably kinda busy yourselves, so maybe you won’t even notice!

I’m off now to take the shower I’ve been putting off all day, and then I will cozy up with my Christmas knitting (which, I can almost guarantee will not be finished in time, but I wan’t to get it as far as possible). I can’t wait to settle in for the night. I love my cozy stitching time!

  1. I am a super-restrained decorator, but your oranges made my little Grinch heart grow three sizes, Lisa. 😉 Not certain how the fruit would fare in this house, where, if it isn’t nailed down, it gets eaten!

    1. You might actually have luck with these – the orange-eaters in my house didn’t want to touch them once the cloves went in. Apparently they’re not big on the smell of cloves 😉

  2. What gorgeous photos! I have fallen terribly behind with Picture the Holidays. I do believe that your photos are going to motivate me to get back on track!

    1. Cool! I’m really trying to keep up with it this time. I took it in 2010, and there was about a week there where I completely dropped the ball. Two days after Christmas, I was staging all kinds of scenes and playing catch-up. I’d kind of like to avoid that this time 🙂

  3. Hey Lisa! Love all the merriment happening at your house.
I remember sometime ago you posted a photo or something about the photo tags you make. Want to post a refresher, or what punch you are using, photo template? I’ve looked at punches, but the ones I’ve found I think are smaller than yours.

    1. Sure! Here’s a link to the original post. I’ve just re-read it, and I could definitely do a Photoshop-based update, since that’s how I make them now. Also, I noticed a problem with the layout. If you look at the printout, the three tags on the left should be flipped around. If there’s time later, I can post an update and go into some more detail. Until then, though, I hope the original post is helpful!

  4. Thank you very much!!! something that has been on the to-do list since your original post….which is far too long.
