And then there were three.

Three crocheted lap blankets in my family room, that is.

First, Flufy got his granny squares.

Then Boring Office Guy got his granny hexagons.

And now I have my squares that start out as flowers and become very grannyish by the last few rounds. (Granny flowers, then?)

I’m very excited to have finally put the finishing touches on this project that I started five months ago!

When I decided to make myself a blanket, I had a few requirements in mind:

  • there had to be colorful motifs on a creamy white background
  • the colors had to coordinate nicely with the other handmade stuff in my family room (that meant red, yellow-green, and blue-green)
  • the design had to be different than either of my previous two blankets
  • the process of crocheting it had to be something I could easily communicate to others so that I could write up a pattern for it

I really feel like I hit all of the marks with this one. (Although, you might want to ask me again about that last point in a few days after I’ve started writing the pattern…).

So, would you like to see a little more?

Okay, twist my arm!

Well, if you insist…

I love, love, love it!

My hooking hand is ready for a break now, so no more blankets for a while, I think.

The next step is to write up a pattern and photo tutorial for any of you who might like to make this blanket. I aim to have that ready next week, which should give you plenty of time to hook one up as a Christmas present!

By the way, if you are not really a crocheter, but you are thinking you might like to learn, and you really want to make one of these blankets, stay tuned. I’ll be making a video to show you how to do every single stitch required for this blanket. With the photo-tutorial pattern, and the video of all of the stitches, you could definitely make this!

And keep in mind, yours doesn’t have to be as big as mine. The sample has 48 floral blocks (6×8) and is big enough to keep a grown woman comfy while curled up on the couch watching British mysteries and sipping tea. A 5×5 would be plenty for a baby blanket. Or try 3×2 for a table mat. Or even 12×1 for a long scarf! There are lots of possibilities here, with varying levels of commitment. (The truly committed could make a king-sized bedspread, if they wanted to…)

I probably should have saved that pitch for the sales page, but I’m just so darn happy with the way this blanket came out, I had to try and get you fired-up, too!

Thanks for sharing my enthusiasm 🙂

    1. Thanks 🙂 I love it!

  1. That border turned out fantastic! Your initial instincts were right on 🙂 it’s a gorgeous throw, I’d love to make a queen sized one!

    1. Yeah, I’m glad I listened to those of you who liked it 🙂
I don’t think I have the patience for a queen sized one. But then, a few years ago, I never could have imagined crocheting a lap-sized one! Or knitting a sweater for that matter. Moral: never say never!

  2. Yes, the border is PeRFecT!! Love the tiny little bits of yellow.

    1. Thank you! Oh,you are making me remember some of the things I meant to say about the border but forgot to write! For one thing, the scalloped edge is meant to echo the shape of the flower petals. And the other thing is about those little chartreuse bits: I love them, too! I got the idea when I saw this border on a really pretty hexagon blanket.

  3. It’s gorgeous! I love it.

Nice timing too, just in time for cooler weather. Notice I didn’t say cold weather. Let’s not jump too far ahead.

    1. Oh, yes, thank you, let’s *not* jump into cold just yet 🙂 I’m only just barely ready for “cooler!”

  4. Lisa, Absolutely beautiful!

    1. Thanks, Lynda. I’m so happy with it!

  5. well, we’re experiencing significantly “cooler” weather here on my mountain in Northern Idaho. Although I think the air wonderfully refreshing! Lisa, I did go look at the border you mentioned and think it amazing how we can take one person’s idea and take it the next step farther!

    1. One of the best things about the internet, I think!
I love that Autumn crisp. I wish it stuck around a little longer. Winter gets here too soon!

  6. Amazing! Wow!!! Beautiful!!! I want!!!!!!!
    You seriously rock my world.

    1. *blush*
Well, it’s all mine, but I’ll show you how I made it 🙂

  9. Very nice. Love the pop of colour in the white and the border is perfect. good on ya. something for you!

    1. Thanks! I’m no stranger to selfish crafting, but a crochet blanket is something I’ve never gifted myself until now 🙂

  12. Oh, your blanket is absolutely stunning!! I am still working on the cal you had last year. I have been making baby blankets for the church and projects for them so I definitely have an excuse. lol

Dd can’t wait to get it. She’s 12 and I will probably be finished by the time she gets married. lol

I love all the things you make!!

    Hugs

    1. If not, maybe you can give it to her first baby, LOL! Then you’d have an excuse to make it smaller 😉
