We went down the shore over a week ago, and I forgot to tell you about it! We took one of our usual nighttime “day” trips to Ocean Grove.

We drove down after Neil’s day job let out, arriving around 7pm. By the time we finished supper in town and walked to the beach, it was already getting dark out. There was no time to spread out the beach blanket and play, really, so we just walked. And I managed to take a few pictures.

I don’t know if you remember the state of the boardwalk back in April when we last visited, but it didn’t seem like a whole lot had changed since then. Clearly, work had been done to make the beach accessible, and to allow passage through to Asbury Park, but there were no boards. It looked, in fact, very much like it had four months ago.

I haven’t (yet) sought any information on where the whole FEMA thing stands, or whether there will be any funding to rebuild, but the optimist in me likes to think that everything will be back to normal next year.

I just love our little trips to the Jersey shore. This is the only one we’ve done this summer, but I hope that we can maybe squeeze in one last visit before September. It’s hard to believe that is only a few weeks away. I’m not done with summer yet!

  1. I love your pictures. They make me homesick (in a good way?). Also, your tag “Beautiful Jersey”, love that too. NJ is the butt of so many jokes (some pretty spot-on). I don’t think a lot of people realize just how beautiful it can be.

    1. Oh, that is it exactly! There is so much more to New Jersey than the Turnpike and Newark Airport. I like to make sure people know that once in a while 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed the pictures. Do you ever get back to visit?

      1. Rarely 🙁

We were supposed to come up twice this summer but we had a house fire Memorial Day weekend that has devoured our summer.

Florida is beautiful but it is not home. Culturally we don’t fit here, which makes it very lonely. I don’t think I realized what a Jersey girl I am until we moved away. We are hoping to move back North (probably MD, where Hubby is from) once the boys are done with college. Our youngest starts on Monday (FL has dual enrollment which is, admittedly, pretty awesome). So, four more years and we are out of here.

Your blog brightens my day 🙂

        1. Aw, glad I could help in some little way 🙂
I’m so sorry to hear about your house fire! That must have been terrible. I’m glad you got out safely, and I hope you were able to save some of your things. (My BIL’s house burned to the ground a few years ago. He lost everything and his dog. It was very sad, but it was such a good thing that he wasn’t home at the time!)
Four years will probably just fly right by! And until then, there are always blogs for vicarious living 🙂

  2. My only kiddo starts pre-k this year. Having that First Day of School date looming has made summer feel so much shorter. You captured gorgeous shots of the shore.

    1. Glad you like them! I know just how you feel – September really looms at you when you’re trying squeeze in as much together-time with the kid(s) as possible. The good news is (at least for me) that sadness over the end of summer is soon replaced by the excitement of a new beginning. I do love September for that, even if I tend to be dragged into it kicking and screaming, LOL!

      1. Well put! Now that my family is back in Northeast for the time being, we get to enjoy all that wonderful fall foliage, pumpkin patches, apple cider and cider doughnuts… 🙂

        1. Ooh, now you are getting me in the mood for that 🙂 The crisp mornings and nights this week in NJ have really felt Septemberish, too.

  3. The beach sand looks so soft!
Amazing pictures, thanks for posting so we can all see.

    1. I wish we had a chance to spend some time on the sand, but we only had a few hours, most of them dark. Maybe next time!

  4. Do you ever look at Quince and co. patterns and wools? They have some interesting ‘sweater’ designs.

    1. I never had before, but I just did, and wow, they have a lot of choices. Some of them are quite nice!
