Drinking and swatching

Swatching

I don’t love to swatch, and truth be told, I often skip it. But I know something about me, and that is: I tend to knit and crochet tightly. For things like blankets, and other bits of home decor that don’t need to fit anywhere specific, it really doesn’t matter. But garments are another story, and I have decided a lacy tank is in order for the summer.

So I’m swatching. Even though it feels kind of time-wastey and I’d much rather be getting into the good stuff of actually starting the top.

Swatching

The plan is to make Clarice in this nice, neutral taupe color. Neutral is new for me, but I decided I’d really like something that would look equally as attractive with a black cami under it as it would with a white one. Also, I think the lace pattern will be bold enough – no need to go loud with thread color, too.

I’ll keep you up to date on my progress. That reminds me. My Ravelry page could use some love. My most recent two projects aren’t even on there. Three projects, if I manage to get past this swatch. I must spend some time on Ravelry soon.

Drinking and swatching

On a totally unrelated note, did you know that if you fill a pint-sized mason jar to the top with ice, and then pour Bailey’s Irish Cream into the jar up to the halfway point, you get about one ounce of alcohol in the jar? Top it off with some cold coffee concentrate, and it’s quite delicious. It’s 140 calories more than a nice tall glass of ice water, but sometimes you don’t really care.

See, I’m supposed to be swatching – a task we have already established does not make me happy, so I’ll take that delicious drink, thankyouverymuch, diet be damned!

(Luckily drinking and swatching is perfectly legal, and nobody gets hurt.)

  1. I may have had a similar drink while sewing the flowers to the baby sandals I’m crocheting. I love to crochet but when the final project requires sewing pieces together (adding buttons, appliques, etc) they tend to languish in the “nearly finished” stage for quite a long time.

    1. Oh, I totally do that too. It’s so silly, though! What’s really the difference between using a hook or a needle and thread? It’s practically the same when you think about it.

  2. I hate swatching too and now wonder if that’s why I’m loving knitting blankets right now! Congratulations on actually doing one! I love Ravelry! I wish I knew someone with the technical skills of Jess & Casey who could do a ravelry-type place for beaders. We NEED one too. Meanwhile I can get lost in Ravelry just as I can Pinterest (and Candy Crush). HA

    1. I have long thought that a Ravelry-type site for polymer clay would be a great idea. And sewing, too. I think Jess & Casey could make a decent bit of money selling their software to people who would customize it for their own craft!

  3. […] for this one. I know I could work up a couple of gauge swatches, and I intend to do that (much as I dislike it). But I thought maybe some of you have experience substituting one for the other, and could share […]
