Dusting off the sampler

I took a break from the granny square sampler while I worked on my shawl, and it is so nice to be getting back to it! I really enjoy small projects more than big ones, and while technically a blanket is a big project, it hasn’t felt that way while it’s being divvied up into manageable chunks.

So I am once again in catch-up mode. I completed the squares from weeks 7 and 8 in the last few days. That puts me five weeks behind. It’s ok, though. I am a bit of an over-achiever where granny squares are concerned, and I suspect it’ll only take me a couple of weeks to be back where everyone else is.

These are from week 7. I really enjoyed these. The flower motifs are so pretty, and I think they would make lovely standalone squares. Remember my need for new coasters? these could work quite nicely. They’re fairly dense in the middle area, so the drips from a sweaty glass wouldn’t be likely to leak through any holes.

Week 8’s squares were pretty simple, I thought. I introduced a new color to the mix, too. I saw this pale aqua while shopping the other day, and although it’s not the same nice cotton as the the rest of the yarn I’m using (it’s cheap-o chain store cotton), I knew I needed it for this blanket. What can I say? It’s one of my colors.

This is my progress so far. Honestly, I thought I had more than this!  I am going to have to stare at it for a while so that I can figure out what colors need to be better represented in the next blocks.

Those next blocks, by the way, will be on my hook tonight. See? Over-achiever.

  1. I really liked that flower one as well.

    1. I have to try to convince myself not to make a whole bunch of them until I have caught the rest of the way up with the sampler 🙂

  2. I suppose it’s time I dust off my sampler as well. I’m a full week behind you. (I skipped week 7 and did week 8 because it looked to interesting). And you’re right, I thought I had way more squares!

My agenda for this evening: dishes, dinner, crochet, mani/pedi. A perfect Thursday night.

    1. That does sound like a nice night 🙂 Enjoy!

  3. They are looking so pretty – and together – what a pic that makes so I’m sure it’s much prettier in person. Can’t wait to see how this all shakes out.

    1. Me neither, LOL! I suspect it’s going to be a fairly small blanket, but that might be just perfect for keeping little legs warm the car. (We like to ride with the windows open on Summer nights, and sometimes there are chilly protests from the back seat, LOL!)

  4. I loved the african flower as well, it’s so pretty. Using them as coasters is a great idea. I also thought I would have more squares by now… I’m missing a couple of weeks though. 🙂

    1. I’m on week 11 now, but it still seems like it’s going to be a small blanket. Unless, of course, there is a lot of space added in the connecting of the squares… that’s always a possibility.
