Me and my paper hat

Oh, I do like this hat. I did not care much for crocheting with paper, but I think the end justifies the means.  And the pattern was fairly easy, too.  I could see myself making another in cotton (and probably in about half the time – cotton would be significantly easier to work with).

My only modification? I worked it in a single color (the pattern is written for three) so that it looked somewhat like straw.

This will be perfect for our beach getaway. It’s exactly what I needed to complete my “incognito movie star” look, too…

Of course, that look really also requires glamorous wide-leg drapey lounge pants. Guess that’s next on my to-make list…

P.S. I might add another row to the brim. Maybe. Got plenty of paper left!

  1. Now that’s pretty cool! It does look sort of straw-like with the kraft coloured paper.

    1. That’s what I was hoping for. I’m glad it worked out. I wonder how it would have been to crochet with actual straw. (I also wonder if anyone even makes straw “yarn”).

  2. Lisa, I absolutely LOVE this hat!!! Can I put in an order??? You sound like you had a ball making it. LOL! I think it would look great in black, oh and maybe in brown, oooh or red!!! 😉

    1. Ha! I hope you are kidding 🙂 Although I have to admit I am getting curious to try it in cotton – I had a suspicion it would be a really quick (relatively-speaking) project.

  3. That hat is so cute! It sure does look like straw. I’m wondering if you made it in cotton, wouldn’t it be a floppier sort of hat? It doesn’t seem like it would have the body that the paper has. Just wondering! But I do love it.

    1. Oh, I think it almost certainly would be floppier. That’s the reason I went with paper in the first place. But I think now that I have one that’s exactly what I wanted, a little experimentation couldn’t hurt!

  4. Looks like someone is ready for that beach getaway! Love the hat. It’s so cute as is the gal who’s wearing it. Have fun at the beach!

    1. Oh, I am soooo ready, you have no idea! Thanks for the complement 🙂

  5. Excellent!

    1. Thanks, Byrd 🙂
