I may have enough now

I may have enough of these shirts now.  Maybe.  I made three more last week: one in a cotton lawn, one in an Amy Butler voile, and one in an old bold Amy Butler print that I’ve always loved.

The three I had made previously were done entirely according to the pattern (Simplicity 3835) except that I left the elastic out of the arm holes.  All of them also had fairly small-scale, simple, repeating patterns.

For this three, I decided to introduce a little variety.  The first one is in a pink lawn that I think is a little prairie-ish. I like that in a lawn, though. For that shirt, I did put the elastic in the sleeves.

For the second one, I made the sleeves longer (and added elastic). The design on this voile is supposed to be peacock feathers, but the boys thought it looked reptilian. Either way, it doesn’t matter to me – it was the color that drew me in.

This last one is in my favorite Lotus print. I’m not entirely sure I like it as a shirt – it’s so bold! But bold is what I was going for, after making so many tops in small-scale prints. I can tone down the loudness with a sweater if it bothers me, I think.

So now I have six new tops.  Plus three or four that I made in previous years, before I got the fit quite right.  This should carry me easily through the spring and summer. Think maybe I can put this pattern away now??

By the way, some of you mentioned to me last time that you were disappointed not to be able to get your hands on this pattern (without spending an arm and a leg on eBay), so I did a little searching and found this free PDF tutorial from Things of Cloth.  The sleeves appear to be done differently, but the finished product looks much the same.  Maybe that will make a nice substitute. Happy sewing!

  2. These are too cute! I guess I need to get out my material and try it. Thanks for the link to the pdf.

    1. Yes, it’s the BBW pattern. I really love these shirts. They’re great when I don’t want to wear anything clingy, and I don’t think they make me look heavy like some other roomy shirts do.
