Honeymooning

We’re in the honeymoon phase, my crochet hook and I, frolicking happily with our colorful ball of wool.  And while I would hate for my hook to hear this, I actually have a history of honeymooning in this way. I wouldn’t necessarily say I love ’em and leave ’em, because I never truly leave.  But I think it would be accurate to say that I have a tendency to love ’em and neglect ’em for long periods of time.

Oh, yes,  I’ve had multiple partners:

For much of 2010, my Canon SX20 and I took long, romantic walks on the beach together.

In 2009, I was in a threeway with a pair of knitting needles, and let me tell you, that was quite a ride.

2008 was the year of the knitting loom.  Perhaps I did love that one and leave it.  I’m sorry, Loomie, but the needles did all that you could do and then some.

In 2007 my love affair with my sewing machine was well documented and fruitful.

And before that I had a long-term relationship with polymer clay that fulfilled me for the better part of eleven years before my eye started to wander.

I come back to these past loves often for a little romp.  They’re like comfortable old shoes, and they feel good and right. and every once in a while I get playful and have a little thing on the side with the likes of paper crafting or tub dying.

It’s all good.

But for right now, the hook is the apple of my eye.  There are no other new crafts on the horizon that I even want to explore.  It’s smooth sailing on the SS Crochet, and clear blue skies as far as the eye can see.

(hmmm, you know… come to think of it? I’ve always wanted to try my hand at pottery…  eek!)

  1. I am SO the same. Learn it all, I say.
I am dreaming of a romance with a pottery wheel, though I don’t know if my wallet can take that kind of relationship right now!
I have a huge tin of polymer that is probably starting to harden, if it hasn’t totally already – I haven’t opened it in about 4 years… My sewing machine, on the other hand, is here to stay. 🙂

    1. Hey, well, the good news is that polymer is not likely to harden unless you keep it in a hot place. I’ve got clay that’s nearly ten years old by now, and it’s fine 🙂
I’m with you on the pottery costs. That one is going to have to wait until I have some spare change (and someplace to keep the supplies!).

  2. I’m chanting Pott-er-y, Pott-er-y, Pott-er-y!

    1. I can’t hear you! LaLaLaLaLaLaLaLa!

  3. I totally get that-and guess what?? My hubby and kids signed me up for pottery classes as my birthday gift!! haha, I will let u know how it goes 😉

    1. Ooh, such fun! If it goes really well, please don’t tell me – I don’t have the money or the space for that craft just yet 🙂

  4. I am precisely the same way.

I’ve always wanted to try pottery, too!

I think I may be getting back into a digital scrapbooking swing. Maybe. We’ll see what calls when the school year starts.

    1. I’ve managed to (mostly) avoid the digital scrapbooking thing, although I have dabbled for small projects like calendars and party invitations. I am willing to bet that most of us who read/write multi-crafty blogs can relate to the cyclical nature of creative urges…

  5. Oh, I just tell folks I’m a craft slut… But, yes, I guess I am a serial monogamous crafter…. smile!

    1. Haha! I almost used the term “craft slut” myself 🙂
