Video blog, episode one: If You Give a Boy a Haircut

After keeping myself awake until the wee hours of the morning last night, ideas swimming through my head, I finally broke down and made my first video blog.  I’ve been wanting to do this for ages, but I’m so much more comfortable when I can easily edit my words… video poses quite a challenge for me, both in terms of learning how to speak on my feet, and learning to be comfortable in my own skin.

I suspect that after I’ve been doing this for a while, I’ll look back on this episode and cringe (truth be told, I’m already cringing and I only filmed it ten hours ago…) but it’s all part of the process I guess.

Some background on this episode

Flufy was in dire need of a haircut, but didn’t particularly want one.  I’d been gently suggesting it for weeks, he’d been responding in the negative for just as long.  I reached the point where I was going to make him do it this week regardless of his feelings on the matter, but I thought maybe we could have a little fun while we were at it.

Honestly? I think he agreed to get his hair cut just to be in the movie.  The bribe was icing on the cake.

I have ideas for more video blogging down the line.  Also, a podcast is not out of the question.  I have long liked that idea.  Stay tuned.  As always, I’d love to get your opinions, if you have any.

    1. Aw, thanks! We all had fun with it. And they owed me – I’ve been in far too many of their videos over the years 🙂

  4. Very cute! Loved it!

    1. Thanks! I’m encouraged to make more 🙂

  5. Love that you’re doing vlogs. I think you did great since the kids were in the house with you – I’ve totally given up trying to make vlogs when they’re around :-). Looking forward to the next one.

    1. I almost didn’t do it in front of them – I was horribly self-conscious! Until I realized they kind of helped me make it better… besides, I think that’s what the proverbial “cutting room floor” is for 🙂

  6. That was really good! When I hear recordings of my voice I wonder “is that how I really sound? eek.” This was adorable. Keep it up! Can you do one on how to make your kids brush their teeth and get dressed in the morning without parental hair pulling?

    1. Only if you want it to be full of things that *don’t* work 😉 Honestly, I have had this struggle every single day with my kids, and it wasn’t until less than a month ago that the oldest (11 years old) finally woke up one morning and decided he was going to brush his teeth and get dressed as soon as he got up. I wish I knew what caused the sudden change, because I’d bottle it and spray some on the other child, LOL!

  7. […] spent all day Monday getting that vlog off the ground, and then I disappeared, not to be seen anywhere near the blog since.  So I’m […]
