Picture Winter, week one

Yeah, I got sucked in.  I couldn’t resist.  How could I do Picture Summer, Fall, and the Holidays, and not do Winter too?  I need a complete set.  (Yes, I know this means I must do Picture Spring as a self-paced workshop in April, since I missed it the first time it was offered.  It’s a compulsion I cannot deny.)

At least it’s a good time to be picturing winter – the snow is falling outside, everything is covered in a lovely white blanket.  And I’m not yet fed up with the cold and wet.  Talk to me in a month, but for now, I’m embracing it.  I figure it’s either that, or whine for the next 3 months.  I’ve tried that before – it’s not really fun for anybody!

Day 7 – quiet beauty (yes, those are actual snowflakes, very very close up – I didn’t know they actually looked like that)

So, I’d love to stay and chat more, but I have three week’s-worth of orders to pack up.  It’s my first batch of shipments since closing the shops for the holidays in mid-December, and it’s always a real bear to get out the door.  The few weeks of unencumbered holidaying are worth it, though, I think.

Ok, enough chit-chat.  Back to work for me!! Tootles 🙂

  1. you should channel Snowflake Bentley and do a snowflake series. That photo is fabulous! Are you aware of Snowflake Bentley? I wasn’t till last year – he’s from Vermont and made a career of photographing snowflakes and cataloging their patterns. check him out 🙂

    1. Wow, I’d never heard of him – fascinating! I can’t believe he got such amazing photos 100 years ago!

  2. Yay!!!! Im so glad you are playing along again. That last photo of the snowflakes is to die for!!! Seriously, amazing. Happy Friday to you.

    1. Thanks! I had to lay down on my front steps in a snow storm to get it (my neighbors now have confirmation that I’m crazy, LOL!) but it was worth it.

  3. love the snowflakes. It’s a lot nicer to look at than the close up of the spider!

And a few books in your pile will be searched from the library.
    thanks for sharing

    1. Very true. I’ve decided to use my macro lens for good instead of evil from now on 😀

  4. Okay, I’m obviously gonna be going and chasing a snowflake with my macro lens real soon. As soon as there’s adequate light outside. We certainly have enough snow.

    1. I went out again yesterday when more snow came down, but I didn’t have the same kind of luck. I think the flakes might have been smaller or something. Plus, it’s hard to sit there on the stone steps and be patient while your teeth are chattering!

  5. so glad that you’re taking the workshop. of course you have to finish out the cycle! i’m just sad i didn’t stumble upon this until picture winter. now i have to go around and do the rest of the year!

anyway, love that second shot for breath of fresh air. so lovely and airy and light! and, of course, the snowflake shot is AMAZING. i can’t wait for it to snow again so i can try that for myself.

    thx for sharing.

    1. I’m looking forward to Picture Spring (and, of course, to spring itself!) although I will probably miss all of the inspiration in the gallery. Unless the gallery from the previous class remains open? That would be great.

  6. O.M.G! I love those flakes! Who knew? We do now:)

    1. I know! If I didn’t hate being cold so much, I could spend a lot of time just hunting down the most intriguing specimens!

  7. Awesome snowflake picture!

    1. Thanks!

  8. Okay, I like the snowflake one as well – but the possibilities one with that yarn just *waiting* to be made into something wonderful? That one I LOVE! 🙂

    1. I feel the same way about that – so much potential! 🙂

  9. Gorgeous photos Lisa! You are a true genius! (I figure it never hurts to tell someone that every once in awhile. :-)) Just love the snowflake one. I’ve seen them photographed before but I thought they were taken with some sort of magnifying glass in a lab. It is so cool to know that you took that one with your new lens!

  10. Hmmm…. what is this picture Winter thing you speak of? I must investigate! I can’t seem to make myself to 365. I thought I would, but apparently, no. I take pics every day, but the thought of having to choose one and remember to post it daily…. well, I am not there yet.
