Another scarf and thrift shop luck

I was rereading my last several posts and noticed how negative they were – blech!  Enough of that.  I’m in a happy mood now that most of the difficulties of the last few weeks are behind me, Thanksgiving is almost here, and there’s so much in the next several weeks to look forward to.  Yay!  I just love this time of year.

So, I was encouraged by how quickly my first Purl Scarf came together, and decided to make another one for someone else on my list.  She, too, might click over from facebook, so I will refrain from mentioning her by name.  The odds that my family members are in the least bit interested in knitting talk are fairly astronomical, but just in case, I’ll stick with anonymity for these things.

The Details

Pattern: “The Purl Scarf” from Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson

Yarn: Malabrigo Twist in Damask Rose and Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Fondant and also in Grace

Needle: Size 15

Modifications: None, aside from making it shorter – 60 inches (before fringe) seems like plenty to me.

It is sooooo soft, I can’t even describe it.  I think I want one for myself.  I know I do, actually.  Do I give in to the urge, or do I just keep cranking these puppies out for more people on my gift list?  Oh, the dilemma.  One thing I do know, after all of this girly pink and purple stuff, I really could use a green fix.  Maybe even blue.

By the way, I have to show you my new coat.

Last week, I said to Neil, “I would really like a nice black wool car coat.”  He suggested I put it on my Christmas list, but I didn’t really want a coat to the exclusion of some of the actual fun toys on my list, so I resisted.  I thought maybe I could find something appropriate at the thrift shop.

And I did! Which, honestly shocked me.  I don’t usually have the kind of thrifting luck that has me finding exactly what I was looking for.  So, $10 for my new coat.  You can’t tell from the picture, but it is about mid-thigh length and quite slimming on me.  What’s not to like about that?  I think I need to knit myself a scarf to go with it…

  1. I’m not much into pink–at all!
    But.
That scarf looks really great with your coat and gloves. You totally rock that look. I think you should knit yourself a pink scarf just like the one you made before. It looks so good!

    1. Really?? Thanks! I’m with you, though – totally not into pink at all. I actually hit the yarn shop this morning and came back with a variegated yarn with all of the colors I’d been considering for myself – green, blue, red, and some brown for good measure. I hope it will look good on me too!

  2. What a great find Lisa! The stars aligned for you perfectly. I know how you feel about putting certain things on your list. Things you want or need but that might come into your life anyway, without it being a special occasion. Glad you found this beautiful coat for such a great deal. And slimming too! P.S. the scarf is wonderful! I hope the recipient is very appreciative. It’s a lovely gift!

    1. Thanks! And yes, exactly. I felt like putting a coat on my wish list is something like putting a vacuum cleaner on it – I may want or need it, but it wouldn’t excite me as much as the new macro filter set I’ve had my eye on for my camera 🙂

  3. Wow!thats really good. Love the coat and for $10 you can’t go wrong. Love the scarf as well and so easy to make. Happy Week

    1. Thank you – yes, it was quite easy to make (I’m already 1/3 of the way through my next one!) and finding the coat was quite serendipitous!

  4. Oh that looks so fluffy and soft I want one.
