When it rains…

…it pours.  Finally getting over my sore neck issues, and now I have my son’s cold (but with a twist – I was lucky enough to get a fever and a headache, too).  Throw in a little PMS just for kicks, and well, it’s been a fun few days over here.

Yesterday I was good for nothing.  I spent the whole day on the couch, watching my DVR backlog, taking my temperature, and bemoaning my fate.  Today has been better.  I’m mostly fever-free, and I managed to accomplish something:  fringe.

I’ve had a lot of ideas for Christmas gifts floating through my head this year, and this is the first one I’ve actually completed.  It’s a scarf for someone who will remain nameless, as there’s a slight chance she might see this on facebook and click through…  Although, I doubt it’s going to be any kind of surprise anyway, since she said to me last month, “you could make me a purple scarf for Christmas,” and that’s exactly what I did.

Anyway, I’d finished the knitting right before I fell ill, and today I added the fringe in between naps.

I was afraid knitting this scarf would be tedious.  I’m not a real fan of the 1×1 rib, and I’d really had enough of it with the Monkees hats I’d just finished, but for some reason, this really didn’t bother me at all.  It was such a quick knit.  I’m considering making another one for someone else on my gift list.  And one for myself, too, perhaps.

The Details

Pattern: “The Purl Scarf” from Last Minute Knitted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson

Yarn: Malabrigo Twist in Grapes and Rowan Kidsilk Haze in Dewberry

Needle: Size 13

Modifications: cast-on 2 extra stitches to make up for the smaller needle, only knit for 60 inches instead of 100, since she didn’t want it to be too long.

And with that, I am signing off before my headache returns 🙂

  1. Sorry to hear you’ve been under the weather lately. 🙁 The purple scarf is lovely. Maybe you can curl up in it before you send it off. It looks so cozy!

On another note… have you heard about the discontinued Premo colors yet? This will probably effect you, so I thought I’d let you know that I have put together a virtual petition to !SAVE Cobalt Blue, Zinc Yellow and Sea Green! I’d like to get as many comments as possible that I can show to Polyform to get them to change their minds. Will you help? The Pod Bead link below takes you to the post where the comments are piling up. Hopefully we can stop this!

    1. I have seen that – thanks for the link. This happens every time Polyform changes their colors. Artists are probably a very small percentage of their customer base, which is why “candy pink” sells better than “zinc yellow.” Still, hopefully there is room for compromise here. It would be a shame to lose those pure colors.

  2. It’s just that time of year I’m afraid 🙁 Happy to hear that you had something to do while you lay abed.

    1. Thanks. Feeling better now, at least 🙂
