Bwwwaaahhh!

Aidan’s having a Raving Rabbids birthday party next weekend, and I wanted something special to wear.

Hey, if the guys are getting t-shirts, it’s only fair that I get a new party skirt 😀

I had found the Rabbids images online, mirrored them, and printed them onto t-shirt transfer paper.  I made the skirt itself out of a white linen-cotton blend, using my favorite a-line elastic-waist pattern, and ironed-on the Rabbids around the bottom edge. (I did so before inserting the elastic, so as to avoid bunching up the fabric.)  There are twelve different Rabbids altogether, all of them cute in a deranged sort of way.

It’s funny. I’ve been entertaining ideas of making a skirt with ironed-on motifs for some time, but what I had in mind was something more involved (and feminine):  I’d wanted to dye the skirt blue on top (for sky) and green on the bottom (for grass) and then use a combination of buttons, embroidery floss and iron-on images to make a wildflower garden.

Instead I have crazy bunnies carrying oddball props.

Ah, well.  There will always be time for wildflower skirts, right?  A son only turns 10 once!  Or, as the Rabbids would say, “Bwwwaaahhh!”

  1. That skirt is awesome. Oh man. I generally don’t enjoy shooting games, but I got such a kick out of this one that my husband bought it for me. There’s something satisfying about nailing a bunny right in the face with a plunger.

    1. I don’t like shooting games at all – I’m soooooo bad at them! But I love so many of the other games on these (we have all four volumes, #2 and #3 being my favorites). I especially enjoy the jukebox games on volume 2. And such fun in a group!

  2. The skirt rocks!

We went through our own rabbids obsession the last couple years. I even dragged the boyfriend over to look and he admired the artwork.

Are the birthday kids going to be shooting plungers around? Spitting into cups? Throwing cows?

    1. I actually went to the dollar store in search of cheap plungers, but no dice!

Honestly, winter birthdays are so hard – we can’t be outside, and I don’t want a bunch of boys running around my house. So the plan is to just plug them into the wii for 1.5 hours, LOL!

Actually, I did accidentally come across this post, which has some cool ideas. I think I’m going to steal one of the really easy ones: burping contest. If that doesn’t make me the coolest mom in the 4th grade, nothing will. Hahahah!

  3. that is so great- you are so clever- what a great idea!

    1. Thanks! I just hope I find more than one occasion to wear it 🙂

  4. Lisa, where did you find the images? They look to be great quality! I could see you wearing this skirt to the kids’ school carnival, for sure. (if such a thing exists for you!)

    1. No carnival here, but I do volunteer in the school library for my younger son – they might enjoy it there 🙂
      I found the images here.

  5. Thanks Lisa!

  6. I love it! I would actually just wear it anywhere – that might give you a worrying insight into my personal style (or lack of it!) Would still love to see the other skirt if you ever make it – it sounds great in a totally different way. Have a fab party 😀

    1. If I make it, you can bet I will post about it! Most likely, in excruciating detail, LOL!
