September after all

06apples03

Several times in the last few days I’ve said “this month,” when referring to things we’d actually done in August.  I couldn’t seem to wrap my brain around it being September yet.  I mean, really.  September?  Already?

Hmmm.  Maybe so…

We’ve got (slightly hail-damaged) Honeycrisp apples, fresh off the tree.

I made applesauce today.  Tomorrow, maybe apple pie filling (anybody have a good recipe?) or apple butter.  And a few will, of course, be squirreled away to find their way into little boys’ lunch boxes.  School starts this week, you know.

Yep.  I guess it really is September.

  1. Yep, just where did that summer go?

  2. My favorite easy apple recipe is Apple Crisp.

    1. Mmm, me too! I’ll definitely have to make some of that.

  3. Oh, I love honey crisps! They aren’t usually at the place we go picking. May I ask where you went picking?

    1. Sure, but they may not have many left – there was a hail storm that messed up the crop.

Hillview Farms in Meyersville, NJ. It’s a very small place, but it’s so local, and I like to stop in there for farm fresh eggs every now and then. I only found out about the apples by accident this weekend! Website here.

      1. Well, it isn’t all that close to us! I’m down in Monmouth County. Thanks for the info though. It looks like a lovely farm.

  4. My favorite Apple Pie recipie by Jamie Oliver… I make it every year! I do cheat and get the easy pie crust in the box. Fresh ginger is the way to go too.

    1. Mmm, that looks good! Thanks for the link.

  5. Apple season is one of my favorites!
