Busy hands

Well, I did it – took a picture of my hands every day during the month of July.  As much as I enjoyed 2008’s One Object 365 Days project, I think maybe my attention span is better suited to a month-long deal like this one.  My only regret is that I didn’t get a shot of my hands slicing into a polymer clay cane. I’d had that in mind since day one, but I never managed to get the clay out onto the worktable.  Oh well.

I always think it’s fun to look back on a series like this and see how I spent my time.

A Month of Hands

1. Making Breakfast, 2. Making Blueberry-Raspberry Pound Cake / Self Portrait Thursday, 3. Doing Laundry, 4. Having a Holiday Breakfast, 5. Sewing a skirt, 6. Putting together outfits, 7. Facebooking, 8. Going Places, 9. Getting Dressed, 10. Making Good on a Bribe, 11. Lunching with my Peeps, 12. Fueling Up, 13. Working up the Nerve, 14. Choosing Colors, 15. Checking for Ripeness, 16. Ripping out Seams, 17. Auditioning Buttons, 18. Going on a Date, 19. Deciding, 20. Making Supper, 21. Perusing the New Merch, 22. Removing Nail Polish, 23. Checking out the new ‘do, 24. Charging Credit Cards Over Breakfast, 25. Washing Dishes, 26. Sorting Neglected Mail, 27. Bringing Home the Bacon, 28. Thrift Shopping, 29. Tying one on, 30. Caffeinating myself, 31. Doing NOTHING

So what’s next for me and my camera?  So glad you asked!  How does A Month of Meals sound?

I’m all geared-up for it.  This should be just what I need to get me out of that rut I’m in.  You know the one.  The “peer into the freezer at 5:00 every night and wait for the easiest possible solution to jump into your arms” rut.  There are only so many frozen pizza nights I’m willing to put on my photo stream, so we are bound to eat better.

I can feel it working already – I’ve been to the farmers’ market this morning specifically for some fresh ingredients to include on my supper plate tonight.  Fun!

I’m imposing some rules on myself, in the interest of consistency, ease, and just plain better-looking photography: it will always be a supper image, and it will always be only my own plate.

If you’d like to play along, please do!  And don’t feel you have to adopt my rules.  If breakfast is your thing, or you want to include the whole family’s meal, by all means go for it!

By the way, don’t forget about the giveaway still going on.  I’ve been enjoying reading everyone’s memories.  I’ll be choosing a winner on Monday, so be sure to share your stories by Sunday night!

  1. So who took the photos of your hands all month? This looks so cool all together like that. I can see something like that on a calander! Great project. Your next one is quite a challange!! I am afraid I would have to many shots of a bowl of cereal!!(for dinner yep!)

  2. Gonna have to pass on the month of meals in August–we’ll be on the road for a coupla weeks. On the other hand, a lot of my Month of Hands contributions involved food (often from the ice cream family–a very important food group!)

  3. Love all the hand photos. We see our hands all the time but they are rarely in photographs.
Oh, and just as update, I had the gel taken off my nails, they are now short and painted and I’m VERY happy with them – thanks for the inspiration to go natural again :-).
