Swag junkie

Coffee cup swag

Oh, yes, I think that describes me quite well. I hadn’t ever used the term “swag” until I read it on Amy’s blog recently, but now I’m all about that word. Swaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. Swag. Suh-wag. Swaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag. It just rolls off the tongue so much more easily than “stuff with my images on them.”

Apron swag

So, yes, I’m a swag junkie from way back. Finding cafepress, lo those many years ago was like finding a new friend. There were Polka Dot Creations t-shirts to be made, and Polka Dot Radio mugs, calendars with my kids’ pictures on them, and oh! the ever-important NJ Polymer Clay Guild thong. (Ok, I didn’t buy that last item, but it does exist, which is a scary thing in itself.)

And finding moo was another exciting moment in my life. I’ve bought more moo cards with more Polka Dot-related logos on them than I care to admit. And I really enjoyed the sticker book I ordered full of pictures of our Ocean City vacation. Those sticker books are fun for kids, too – I made one for them with just faces of us in it, and the kids used them in their artwork, drawing our bodies and using stickers of our heads.

Tote bag swag

I’ve really tried to curb my enthusiasm for this stuff lately, because it does get expensive. This time around, I just bought three things, so proud of myself for not succumbing to the allure of a Polka Dot Cottage t-shirt:

  1. The ubiquitous coffee mug, because it seems to me if I am starting my morning with the blog, why not sip my tea out of a Polka Dot Cottage mug as well?
  2. An apron, which I think has some embellishment possibilities, and which I plan to use either for working with clay, or for working at craft fairs (it has big enough pockets to hold the money nicely).
  3. Fifteen tote bags

Those tote bags were earmarked for a few different uses, but unfortunately the wrong version of that big “blog page” image was printed on them. Cafepress is sending me a new batch of 15 this week, but I still have this original batch. I’m sticking them in the shop for $1 each, which is kind of like giving all of you a gift, and recouping my shipping costs at the same time. They’re still excellent bags – I’m just being picky about the design.

Now I’m kind of wishing I had bought a t-shirt… I’m really behind on laundry right now and it would be nice not to have to dig through the hamper for clothes to wear today.  Kidding, folks.  Kidding!  Although I’m not making any promises about tomorrow, if I don’t throw something in the wash soon…

  1. ohhhh, I love Swag! I had put the book you recommended “The Creative Family” on my wish list, I just hadn’t gotten over here to order it. Now I come over & find I can get swag, too!

I have the reusable bags from the Kroger store (our local grocery) & try to remember to carry them into every store I go into, but they are a little tacky. Now I’ll have a cool bag to stuff in my purse to use instead of 500 million more plastic bags that I don’t need.

& I *need* a good book of craft ideas. The past 2 Fridays have been “create something” nights – last Friday was baking w/ the easy bake oven & a sugar cookie recipe & a brownie mix (big mess in small servings), & tonight was some edible bread recipe that C found on her art teacher’s website that is still rising in the oven after the kids have gone to bed, & the floor is covered w/ flour. Not sure what we’ll find in the morning…. At least we didn’t do the craft that required laxative tablets, yet… it’s an invisible ink, who knew the secret ingredient???

    Thanks for your inspiration!

    1. Hey, Kelly, nice to see you! That book is great for ideas and, really, a way of life. It appeals to me so much, but I’m really not there, and not sure if I ever will be.

Invisible ink with laxatives? Now that’s new!
