Three sheets to the wind

No, I’m not really drunk. I just wanted to talk about three bags made out of sheets, and the phrase popped right into my head. I’m not above kicking back with a Mike’s Hard Lime later, though, if you prefer for me to represent truth in advertising…

Teaser

These three little piles each contain two fat quarters of recycled vintage fabric, some embroidery floss, and a polymer clay button. I took this photo yesterday afternoon when the plan was to add some lovely gray Irish linen to the mix, and make three new bags for the shop.

That’s still the plan, although much of it has already been carried out.

Now all that remains is a little more stitching, some ironing, a bit of snap-installing and some button-sewing. Like how I make that sound so simple? Actually, the steps are not particularly complicated, but they do take time. Time times three.

If all goes well, I’ll have them in the shop tomorrow. Or, if all goes like I think it’s going to go, I’ll have them in the shop on Friday. See, I have book store orders that must go out tomorrow morning before I go away for a two-day adventure. I have a child that must get his booster shots tomorrow afternoon or risk not being allowed to start Kindergarten in September. And I have a pile of big buttons that must be made before tomorrow night, when I am teaching some friends to embellish flip-flops. And somewhere in there I have to pack for that two-day adventure I mentioned. I think this week’s Week in Review mosaic is going to be just as easy to fill as last week’s was!

Week in Review: August 4

Oh, how I wish I had a lackey or two who could ship those orders for me so that I could get these bags finished and listed. I hate to wish away the boys’ childhood or anything, but it sure would be handy for me if they were strapping teenagers that I could hire for an afternoon of grunt work!

[edited to say, I did it! Bags are in the shop!

Check it out, if you’re so inclined. Now I must go tackle the rest of that to-do list before it swallows me…]

  10. Love these bags! I know you haven’t been sewing all that long, but you’d never know it looking at these!

Did you buy a pattern or was it in one of the books you talk about?
